Holographic
principle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The holographic principle is a
property of string theories and a supposed property of quantum gravity that
states that the description of a volume of space can be thought of as encoded
on a boundary to the region—preferably a light-like boundary like a gravity
horizon. First proposed by Gerard ‘t Hooft, it was given a precise
string-theory interpretation by Leonard Susskind who combined his ideas with
previous ones of 't Hooft and Charles Thorn. As pointed out by Raphael Bousso,
Thorn observed in 1978 that string theory admits a lower-dimensional
description in which gravity emerges from it in what would now be called a
holographic way.
In a larger sense, the theory suggests
that the entire universe can be seen as a two-dimensional information structure
"painted" on the cosmological horizon, such that the three dimensions
we observe are an effective description only at macroscopic scales and at low
energies. Cosmological holography has not been made mathematically precise,
partly because the cosmological horizon has a finite area and grows with time. . . .
High-level
summary
The physical universe is widely seen to
be composed of "matter" and "energy". In his 2003 article
published in Scientific American magazine, Jacob Bekenstein summarized a current
trend started by John Archibald Wheeler, which suggests scientists may "regard
the physical world as made of information, with energy and matter as
incidentals." Bekenstein asks "Could we, as William Blake
memorably penned, 'see a world in a grain of sand,' or is that idea no more
than 'poetic license,'" referring
to the holographic principle.

“If the
doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is,
Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow
chinks of his cavern.”

and apply twenty thousand years of quantum and unknown to us
thought-physics and apply that to what really works in the universe, the marsupial-humanoids have
the ‘engine’ and ‘shell’ to go from Here to There in the three-dimensional
world we all know and love.
1602 hours. It looks like a significant snow/ice storm coming
between Columbus and Cincinnati by sometime tomorrow through Monday. I am at
Mary Lou’s waiting on Carol and Mary Lou to return from shopping with Kim.
Visitation hours are five to eight. No sense in trying to head home before six,
after the rush hour. We had a good lunch so perhaps a light snack before
heading home. Now to work on the stats (something I’ve been putting off).

Carol arrived and you have to get ready.

You are home and ready for bed. Doug
sent you the following note earlier today:

Dick,
If the universe is a hologram, who is
projecting it on to what? When you make a hologram it is usually of some 3D
object. What object was used to make our universe hologram? Just thinking out
loud.

You
replied that it was a very good question. Earlier today you had an idea to take
William Blake’s poem and reverse order it to see the reasoning behind it.
Tomorrow we can work this into Doug’s question. – Amorella

To
see a World in a Grain of Sand
And
a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold
Infinity in the palm of your hand
And
Eternity in an hour.
A
Robin Redbreast in a Cage
Puts
all Heaven in a Rage.
A
dove house fill’d with doves and pigeons
Shudders
Hell thro’ all its regions.
A
Dog starv’d at his Master’s Gate
Predicts
the ruin of the State.
A
Horse misus’d upon the Road
Calls
to Heaven for Human blood.
Each
outcry of the hunted Hare
A fiber
from the Brain does tear.
He
who shall train the Horse to War
Shall
never pass the Polar Bar.
The
Beggar’s Dog and Widow’s Cat,
Feed
them and thou wilt grow fat.
The
Gnat that sings his Summer song
Poison
gets from Slander’s tongue.
The
poison of the Snake and Newt
Is
the sweat of Envy’s Foot.
A
truth that’s told with bad intent
Beats
all the Lies you can invent.
It
is right it should be so;
Man
was made for Joy and Woe;
And
when this we rightly know
Thro’
the World we safely go.
Every
Night and every Morn
Some
to Misery are Born.
Every
Morn and every Night
Some
are Born to sweet delight.
Some
are Born to sweet delight,
Some
are Born to Endless Night.

hours. I thought it might still make sense in reverse but it does not. In fact
it reminds of J. Swift’s amusing satire “Verses on the Death of Dr. Swift”
until the final stanza (in reverse order). –
Could
it be that the hologram universe is a natural shape and not a projection?
Shapes
are standards in physics from the very large (universe) to the very small (sub
atomic?) If shapes were the standard primary colors what would work with each
(better)
(intuitively).
Why?
I
keep thinking we are missing a layer or so of reality – it might only be
between the lines or in the margins; but there is something important in physics that we
have yet to address. (2254)
