Notes - attention to detail

A problem developed in your hard drive yesterday (and following the dictates of your built in utility program) you corrected it by erasing the drive, entering the (backup) ‘Time Machine’ from your T-Memory external drive and restoring the cleaned up drive and all material. – Amorella

This description is simpler that it was because I did not know how to restore the Lion OS. When I bought the MacAir Snow Leopard was the OS. A trip to the Genius Bar at the Kenwood Apple Store saved the day and it was an extra joy because one of my former Mason students Molly M. is a ‘tech master’ (my words) in the back room of the local Apple. Molly just returned from a few weeks at the main  Apple campus in California for more tech schooling. She said my MacAir would work. When I returned home I pressed my name on the machine and everything was restored as I had left it before the full erase – in seconds. Yesterday was the first time a glitch showed up and the machine has yet to ‘crash’. Most awesome. I love my MacAir.

It is time for bed. Today it was Rich and Steve who tiled and tomorrow Rich and Wayne will grout the new limestone put up today, then you will head for Cleveland to babysit Monday as Kim and Paul have to work on President’s Day and Owen’s daycare is closed.

We miss the little guy, so it will be a fun time. I was a bit anxious erasing the hard drive. I have a lot of stuff. Not to think on it I spent most of the day reading more of Steve Jobs biography and thinking about how important layout and design is.

You are excited about the prospects of the kitchen being almost completely done. You both love what is and has been taking place on the home-front recently.

I didn’t think I should mention these things but it has been exciting. This kitchen do-over is seven years in the making, mostly in the last two years. We are lucky with having our craftsmen. In their own way they are as dedicated to their arts and crafts as those at Apple. Those we found to do our work care about what they do and it shows in their careful attention to detail. The work appears old fashioned in the sense they are master craftsmen (no skimping). Those two who installed the tile today each have over 35 years of experience at the job. Wonderful to watch them work (from time to time) during the day. So far we are quite pleased with how the kitchen is turning out.

Attention to detail is good art as well as good engineering. Post, orndorff. - Amorella
