Notes - considerations of spirit

Late dusk. You have not been on your MacAir hardly at all today. You and Carol took a walk partially around the lakes at Pine Hill in the morning, then took a drive to McD's near Kings Island, chatted and watched the traffic go by while sitting in the shade drinking a large diet Coke with light ice. Carol had a medium sugar free iced vanilla coffee. Heading home you drove around the neighborhood looking at everyone's flowers and happened to see Gary Popplewell out washing his new topless sports jeep. You both stopped to chat as you had not seen him since he finally retired from Mason High after forty-two years of service to the district. You taught all four of his kids who are all married with kids. Gary and Teresa have eight grandchildren, if you count the one who is on the way. Gary mentioned going to Tommy's for lunch and asked Carol too but she declined. While at Tommy's you saw another colleague, Tim Keaton, who had been an assistant principal while you were teaching, and his friend Bill. Tim retired in June. You ended up spending the early afternoon at what was once Tommy's Bar, now it goes under another name, Win, Place and Show on Rt. 42 near Sharonville. Once home a short nap then Carol requested a trip to Graeter's for a treat. You finally checked your email by stopping at McD's lot on Tylersville (west of Graeters) to check your email. Home for left over spaghetti pie for supper, the news, and then two shows, "Crossing Lines" and "King and Maxwell". Kim called and you and Carol had a long newsy chat and here it is later than you suspected.

2216 hours. Doug had some interesting things to say today about energy and spirits. I am glad I did not work on the discussion in Brothers 20 yet.

Let's go through Doug's emails and we'll see what comes up. - Amorella

Note One:

Dick, I have been thinking about the properties of the photon. The photon has no rest mass. It does not exist when at rest. When it is created it travels instantaneously at the speed of light.  The speed of light is a constant. Since velocity equals acceleration times time it appears that at creation a photon must experience infinite acceleration. Since it has no rest mass I guess this is okay. Just interesting that singularities seem to be everywhere in the math we use to describe the laws of physics. Basically a singularity says we do not know what is
happening when it occurs. Fortunately for us things work in spite of our lack of knowledge how.

Dick, this equation describes how photons carry energy.

My Note:

Doug,

Also interesting. So, I wonder then, how could a spirit carry energy? (or, something else again, akin to energy)

Note Three:

Dick, not only might a spirit carry energy but it probably carries information, i.e. knowledge as well and it appears that it must have memory. So I think it might act like a modulated stream of photons (remember radio waves are photons also and they carry information). I am not sure if a spirit can have new thoughts or memories. If the spirit is electromagnetic like our brain waves are, then the Poynting vector will work for them too. Remember that scientists are now reading our thoughts with signatures of the signals generated by firing neurons.

You are attempting to assimilate this information too quickly. It has been a busy day and you are tired. What we are looking for here for the book focuses on Doug's comment: "If the spirit is electromagnetic like our brain waves are, then the Poynting vector will work for them too."

Before, you asked if the spirit carries energy or something akin to energy? Doug says that if it carries energy then it probably carries information -- that the spirit might be as a stream of photons (as radio waves). In a sense you are still in the same area as the similar characteristics in light and thought.

We don't have to solve this now; we want to bring this into the conversation. We'll let Robert bring this up and Cyndi respond. Then Connie and then Richard. (What is the spirit composed of?) We can have a 'string' theory by the next chapter. - Amorella

2309 hours. Amorella you are out of my territory here. I don't see how string theory can connect to a spirit's possible non-mass 'composition of energy, knowledge and memory'.

Just something to consider, boy. Time for you to go to bed. Post. - Amorella
