Notes - Pouch 21 preliminaries / oh the irony, the irony ;-)

Early afternoon. Today's project was to begin to rid the English ivy at the north side of the house. You like the ivy, but it is evasive and has become out of control so out it comes in a couple stages of Round Up first, wait a couple of days; another spray of Round Up, wait a couple of days then pull out the roots. Then another spray of Round Up, wait three days then plant new grow, probably pachysandra. You were going to use stronger Round Up but nothing will grow for up to four months with that chemical mix.

1326 hours. I am ready to work on Pouch 21. This is very exciting. I am sure there are plenty of mixed feelings and thoughts as Pyl, Justin and Blake are readying themselves. I assume this will be the focus.

It will. The only evidence of the marsupial humanoids will be the words from Friendly as they enter the main control room. The last sentence of Pouch 21 will be: "Welcome aboard." - Amorella

This is so much fun. What a time to imagine and to immerse myself in through the characters.

I suggest you take one character at a time and come up with about 200 words of heart thoughts then we can splice them together with a quick introduction and drop in the quick conclusion. Then we be done with the preliminaries of Great Merlyn's Ghost, Volume One, boy. - Amorella\

         Wow. Two hundred words each.

The deepest felt mixed with the strongest thoughts. - Amorella

How long are they going to be gone?

They don't know. Up to a year. - Amorella

How are they going to be accepted by ThreePlanets under the conditions Friendly and crew have put themselves in?

They don't know, other than Yermey has two plans and a vow of "No Running". Stand Your Ground is something they have learn to accept being on earth for six months. - Amorella

This doesn't bide well. It is hard to believe the Earthlings are going along with this.

What would you do, boy? - Amorella

Now, this is something to think on.

         Good. Post. - Amorella

You had a very late lunch at Cracker Barrel and are presently at the nearby Barnes and Noble's where Carol is looking at books -- Rowling's The Casual Vacancy; Meltzer's Fifth Assassin and Grisham's The Racketeer.

You watched the news and "Rizzoli and Isles". As you look out the front window the evidence is that it is dusk but you would like to think it is an hour early, 28 June rather than 28 August. Thinking this will do you some help you researched the human emotions. What are you planning to do find four separate ones for each character with about fifty words for each emotion and write in accordingly? - Amorella

2022 hours. Sounds pretty desperate. I hadn't really thought that far ahead. I want each character to have different emotions though. Why would they have the same ones?

When you and Carol went off on your two year working adventure to Brazil, don't you think you had some of the same emotions? - Amorella

I wasn't thinking about Brazil. We're talking the same planet here. We could be back in the States at any time within 24 hours. It didn't seem that far away.

So there you are, a concern. You are going to be gone for up to a year with no chance of coming home. - Amorella

I don't think that would be a bother. I would be concerned about missing my friends and family. We came home after a year anyway because Carol's parents would be visiting back in the States from India for a month. Dave and Marsha loaned us one of their cars for our month stay. Everyone had a good time. Craig, Alta and Jim came to Brazil at Christmas for a couple of weeks. We all had a good time then too. I don't know, these days a year goes pretty fast. I don't think it would be that bad to be gone from the planet for a year.

What would be your main concern as you left? - Amorella

2032 hours. I don't know. You can walk across the street any day of the week and get killed in an accident. The way Ship is set up I figure I would be safer from accidents on Ship or ThreePlanets than here. I would want to be reading up on their culture and society and try to learn a few basic phrases in case I got lost. I would assume that if the trip is going to be free I could at least exchange the cash equivalent for a year or take a loan of some kind so that we would be able to meet expenses while we were there. Being a guest on Ship is one thing but once on ThreePlanets we would want to pay our own way. In the book all three could afford to take out for a years salary to pay for our necessities. No one would want handouts. That wouldn't be right.

What would be the response of Friendly, Hartolite and Yermey to this perspective? - Amorella

I don't know but there is no way, if I had the money, that I wouldn't pay my own way (if I could afford it) once I arrived at ThreePlanets. These three people have enough money in investments, savings, and inheritance to pay. That's the way it is going to be Amorella. I would not want to be beholden to the marsupial humanoids for living free for a year.

What if they could arrange that you three work as building a communications bridge between the two planetary cultures? - Amorella

I suppose something could be worked out -- a contract just like we had overseas. But the three could not guarantee a contract -- it would have to be written and accepts by the ThreePlanet's government. They don't even have to allow Ship to land. Why would they? The wisest course would be to quarantine Ship. They could be bringing back diseases, plagues, who knows what.

Ship says it would be his prerogative to negotiate with ThreePlanets on the health and safety of Ship, crew and guests with ThreePlanets. This would be resolved mostly by machinery. - Amorella

2121 hours. That sounds too reasonable, Amorella.

You know better having been to ThreePlanets in Running Through and Merlyn's Mind. There would be debate and the rise of emotions among the marsupial-humanoids. I can hear one of them thinking now, "Where are we going to run to when the earthlings arrive?" -- "They are stand and fighters, once they arrive on ThreePlanets they will hold their ground at all costs." -- "They will feel cornered with no place to run. They will be terrified, just like us." -- "We could die of a plague in a week. Maybe they have it with them to use on us. We could all be dead in less than a week." - Amorella

This is depressing to think on. The best laid plans of mice and men . . . everyone would have the same justified fears.

Why are you suddenly smiling? - Amorella

The irony. The reality -- just like real life on Earth except it is on ThreePlanets. Dark, dark humor, Amorella.

         Post. - Amorella
