Mid-morning.
Jadah the Cat woke you up this morning as she does most days with a strong
vocal meow about two inches from your nose. In the unusual coolness with the
windows opened during the night she wanted the blind up for the sunlight and a
long snuggle for warmth before you had half a peanut butter and raisin sandwich
and a skim milk breakfast and read the paper. Carol has a brunch at the nearby
Mimi’s Cafe with retired teachers from the Blue Ash Elementary of Sycamore
Community Public Schools. Haskins Elementary in Wood County, Escola Graduada in
Sao Paulo, Wyoming Pubic Schools in Wyoming, Ohio and Sycamore are in Carol’s
lifetime portfolio. She taught third through fifth grade but her favorite and
the one she taught most was fourth grade. Sisters Mary Lou and Linda were fifth
grade teachers. Linda retires in January. Carol’s Great Aunt O was principal at
Westerville High and Carol’s mother taught Latin and your mother taught fifth
grade. Your sister Cathy was head of a pre-school in Flint, Michigan, your
Great Aunt Floy Orndorff Gray taught classes at Ohio University at one time,
Carol’s father taught high school English at Westerville High then became a
principal at Plain City, Ohio and a superintendent of schools in Alliance, Ohio
before moving to government service in education (Agency for International
Development – with stations in Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and India – Washington
D.C.) for another twenty years. These comments leave you nothing to say,
orndorff. Why is that? – Amorella
0908 hours. You put me in a pickle. It is important to me because I
feel education is so important in life – I am proud of our backgrounds but I am
embarrassed that you bring it up because it is a secret pride to have been a
part of the strong traditions in both of our families. What is the purpose of
bringing up these particulars? I’m sure many people have such secret prides (in
a variety of fields) about themselves and their families.
You
work better transparent, boy. One of your greatest wishes is to remain
invisible and this is one way to ensure that. Post. - Amorella
Almost
noon local time. You watched a new show titled, Extent/Extinct and are growing
into enjoying the production. There is a sense of 2001 Space Odyssey that you
find intriguing but you are sure that it will turn off Carol. (She has yet to
watch it.)
1158 hours. It is interesting. I see parallels in my own sets of
fiction past and present in terms of defining ‘human reality’. The reviews are
not so good because it lacks a strong intra-personal emotional response between
characters (too wooden), but then that is probably what some would consider my
characters in the Merlyn series to be – too wooden.
Late
afternoon. You had a late lunch at Panera/Chipotle, then drove to Pine Hills
Park where Carol completed her walk while you researched the address of time of
the 1974 Class Reunion tomorrow night. It is from seven to eleven at the Ivy
Hills Golf Course off Rt. 32 east from I-275. Your plan is to ‘pop in’ about
six o’clock to see people early and leave before the supper begins.
1751 hours. I have completed the tweaking of chapter three. I am also
getting excited about seeing those from Indian Hill. It ought to be fun. And, I
hope Denise forgives me for just showing up. I thought there might be a wedding
tomorrow, but it doesn’t look like that is the case. Jean is spending her time
recovering from her operation. That is more important now.
You
and Carol had light makeshift suppers and watched several recorded shows for
the evening, the last being an older “Murder One” which you both enjoy as it is
like, though modern, gritty like an old time detective show with a splice of
the old Perry Mason. The other major piece was the third installment of the PBS
“Endeavor” which, in your mind, should have been titled: “War Wounds” though
that wasn’t the main focus. Post. – Amorella
2148 hours. I hope to get one more chapter tweaked tonight, then one
more chapter for tomorrow. I just got word that Jim Powers my old colleague is going to the 1974
IH Class Reunion tomorrow night. Glad to hear it.
2258 hours. I tweaked chapter two. Enough for tonight.
