Notes - sticking point / it's Saturday everyday / initials / sunspots

Carol is at breakfast. You finished (a small piece of left over veggie pizza and a banana with a strip of crunchy peanut butter and a line of raisins with a glass of skim milk mostly for downing a mix of morning pills) and you also read the Tuesday paper. – Amorella

0828 hours. I need a ‘focus word theme’ for chapter nine and will glance through the chapter for an idea.

It is better that we work together on this to show your conscious intent of agreement on the word.

0845 hours. The words that stick out to me are “Merlyn rolled in his grave”.  I cannot see a common word though “Sticking Point” float up out of the blue. – I just noticed ‘Happenstance’ was also used as a focus word in Book One.

So it is. What’s to be done, boy? – Amorella

0851 hours. With the sarcastic tone overly evident, I assume, nothing.

Sticking Point will do just fine. You’ll have to dig it out just like any other reader. Post. - Amorella

Earlier today you and Carol had an important talk. Major decision – you are not moving from your house and will not until it is a necessity. Gary P. from Deck Renewal Systems stopped by and gave you several estimates. You decided to go with the composite rustic wood grain cedar flooring and have this installed after tearing out the old deck and stair flooring. You drove to Smashburgers for lunch then to Menard’s in Hamilton to look at the actual composite wood that will be used. You also looked at faucets and lights for the bathroom. – Amorella

1605 hours. Writing this down gives me the satisfaction of knowing what we do each day. Everyday is Saturday when you are retired, or so the saying goes.

You are about to go to Sharon Nursery to look at plant replacements for the front of the house – Little Devil Ninebark, and a trip to the post office and Hallmark store. Post. - Amorella

You made it to the post office to drop off a letter – too busy to buy stamps, then you stopped and bought gas because Speedway is two thirty-nine nine and UDF cater-cornered on Rt. 42 and Tylersville Road is two zero-six nine. There was too much traffic to go to Hallmark so you drove home. – Amorella

1746 hours. I cannot believe there were five cars buying fuel at Speedway when it is so much cheaper at UDF. Don’t people pay any attention? Hey, to each herorhis own – but it bothers me to see people waste their own money.

You think this is a problem inherent in democracy. – Amorella

1750 hours. It just flashed to mind, Amorella. Dictatorships have their problems too. I like the British parliamentary system best because it appears less cumbersome than our own and governments can change much quicker and the campaigning time is much shorter. But, until someone comes up with a better system our democratically styled systems will have to do.

In the Merlyn books you think the marsupial-humanoid system is better yet you do not have Friendly, Yermey or Hartolite making such suggestions to the Earthlings. – Amorella

1757 hours. That’s because anyone in the right mind would know better than to try to convert any political system – well, that’s not true in real life at least among human beings. It is depressing to think on real life, Amorella. Let’s keep this to fiction where I can have some hope for change built in.

That’s an odd way to put it. – Amorella

1800 hours. Not really. Fiction is not reality, that the fun in writing it. I let you control it – shoot, from my perspective you are as the benevolent dictator in here and as this is notes and fiction it is more easily framed. I have my say but you know what to write better than I do. I am only being practical and most of all being myself. – rho

A need for those initials once again. – Amorella

1807 hours. I feel such initialed statements better show to me who I am.

         Post. - Amorella

1818 hours. This is weird. I have 101 hits today but it does not show so such from any country – I have 5 from the USA so far and 1 from each of about 5 other countries – six or so postings from yesterday.

Add to your posting. - Amorella

Tonight you had crunch peanut butter and raisins on two small pieces of bread and some chips and water for supper after an unscheduled hour nap on the living room floor. You watched “Castle” then you both worked on the Internet. Once you read about the two solar storms hitting this morning you and Carol drove up Rt. 747 passed the Otterbein Retirement Center hoping to see the Northern Lights but did not. It was dark and clear enough, but no lights. The discussion on line at solar dot com was that they might be seen as far south as Tennessee. You sent a note to Doug but no response. – Amorella

2204 hours. We got back about 2130 hours and decided to come up to read or work. It was worth a try. I haven’t seen the Aurora Borealis since the mid fifties; Carol says she has never seen them live at all.

Major Solar Storm Hits Earth, May Pull Northern Lights South
WASHINGTON — Mar 17, 2015, 2:03 PM ET
By SETH BORENSTEIN AP Science Writer

A severe solar storm smacked Earth with a surprisingly big geomagnetic jolt Tuesday, potentially affecting power grids and GPS tracking while pushing the colorful northern lights farther south, federal forecasters said.

So far no damage has been reported. Two blasts of magnetic plasma left the sun on Sunday, combined and arrived on Earth about 15 hours earlier and much stronger than expected, said Thomas Berger, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado.

This storm ranks a 4, called severe, on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's 1-to-5 scale for geomagnetic effects. It is the strongest solar storm to blast Earth since the fall of 2013. It's been nearly a decade since a level 5 storm, termed extreme, has hit Earth.
Forecasters figured it would come late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning; instead, it arrived just before 10 a.m. EDT. They had forecast it to be a level 1.

"It's significantly stronger than expected," Berger said. Forecasters had predicted a glancing blow instead of dead-on hit. Another theory is that the combination of the two storms made it worse, but it's too early to tell if that's so, he said.

The storm seemed to be weakening slightly, but that may not continue, and it could last all day, officials said. It has the potential to disrupt power grids but only temporarily. It also could cause degradation of the global positioning system, so tracking maps and locators may not be as precise as normal.

Often these types of storms come with bursts of radiation that can affect satellite operations, but this one has not, Berger said.

But the most noticeable effect is usually considered a positive. The Aurora Borealis or northern lights that usually can be viewed only in the far north will dip south, so more people should be able to enjoy the colorful sky show. Forecasters were not sure just how far south it would be visible.

Forecasters said early Tuesday, before sunrise, auroras were already seen in the northern tier of the U.S., such as Washington state, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Space Weather branch chief Brent Gordon said if the storm effects continued through Tuesday evening, there was a "very strong possibility" that the northern lights could be seen as far south as the middle United States, even Tennessee and Oklahoma. That also means much of Russia and northern Europe, as far south as central Germany and Poland, had the potential for the sky show.

The sky has to be clear of clouds but the crescent moon will appear small enough it shouldn't interfere with viewing of the aurora is in the sky, Gordon said.

At one time, in one of your earlier unpublished books you had a scene or two about three giant sunspots arriving before a major change in the world. This memory was triggered by seeing one giant sunspot online today at space dot com. – Amorella

2216 hours. I must say, I was spooked for a moment or two – felt the tinge of goose bumps on my arms. I remember thinking, ‘This is what a giant sun spot looks like; I’m glad there are not three.’

What if there had been three? – Amorella

2219 hours. I would not have said anything to Carol or anyone else, but I would have slept uneasily I imagine. Coincidence, but not without a doubt or two, comes to mind. I know this sounds arrogant but I do not claim to know much. The next thing on my mind, if it were real, would be, ‘Now, what?’ I would have remained quietly apprehensive, probably for a period of five to six months. That’s what I think of in terms of being spooked.

Too much imagination, boy. – Amorella

2223 hours. That’s the thing, Amorella. Sometimes I don’t think I have enough imagination or reason either for that matter. The world is a strange and mysterious place and we exist here in a limited form for a limited time. Lots of human dead are scattered about the land and waters of this planet. The whole place is haunted as far as I am concerned if you want to know the truth about it.

Shakespeare, i.e. “Hamlet” comes to mind, but you know the lines of reference. Post. – Amorella

         2227 hours. Indeed I do – “There are more things . . .”
