Late morning. Carol is talking to her
sister, Linda. Earlier you had physical therapy and also got your hair cut and
beard trimmed by Brandy who is your replacement at Great Clips for Mary Ann who
moved on to work for the hair division of P&G. - Amorella
1255 hours. We are off to run errands
and have lunch as soon as Carol comes to the car.
You are waiting for Carol at Hallmark Cards. Linda's birthday was
yesterday. Next, the bank to cash in your semiannual around the house coin
collection. New high total of ninety- eight dollars. Seven rolls of quarters
kicked it up to seventy, eight rolls of pennies, four rolls of dimes and two
rolls of nickels rounded out the rest. - Amorella
1314 hours. I usually have about forty-dollars'
worth. Carol needs a new watch so I hope she goes and looks for one today. Her
Fitbit is worn out and she doesn't want a new one because she mostly keeps time
with it and it stopped working a few days ago. You have the windows down a
couple of inches even though it is forty-four degrees out. You have your
somewhat worn black wool Jaxson Basque beret and a flannel shirt but no coat.
You are wearing socks for the second time this week - a new record; Winter must
be coming. - Amorella
1323 hours. I don't like socks.
I gave up sandals a couple of months ago though and have been wearing my
dark-leathery slide-on Docker-lookalikes and khaki pants.
After stopping at Potbelly's for sandwiches and drinks to go, you ate
under the leafless trees at Rose Hill before a trip to the grocery and now as
dusk commences, you are home for the rest of the day. - Amorella
Busy day, huh. Carol made chili for
supper, first time in quite a while. You had two bowls with soda crackers,
chili powder and hot sauce added. Carol had one. She is watching one of her
DVRed shows. All your shared shows are up to date. Real life. - Amorella
1958 hours. No nap today but I did
relax upstairs in the chair for about a half hour and felt better. For the
first time ever I used one of those electric carts at Kroger's. I had to go in
while Carol was already shopping and pick up a couple of 'treats' for Kim and
Paul for helping us out last weekend. Anyway, there was no place to park up
close so Carol got way ahead of me going in (first to look for a small cart if
there were any). I was really feeling old walking the thirty or forty yards to
the store and saw one of those electric carts like I had used at Lowes a couple
of times. Fortunately I didn't see anyone I knew. The place was packed with
people and carts. I drove around getting the 'treats' (also special chocolates
for Kim and special potato chips for Paul to go with her wine and his beer. I
sat aside once my goals were accomplished and felt guilty sitting in the
electric cart waiting (apart from the crowd, but up front by the check out so I
could see her) for her to check out with our food. I didn't need to sit in that
chair any longer and vowed I would give it up and use the cane to return to the
car (thus leaving the cart for someone else who needed it). I pulled it near
the front of the store. There was another empty one there so I felt better
(less guilty). Carol stayed with me as I slowly walked with her back out to the
car. The shock of this experience was that I realized it was a necessity for me
to use the electric cart today. My hips and knees hurt from the morning
physical work -- simple stuff but I had to use muscles I don't normally use
(connected with hips, back and knees). Usually I can disguise my discomfort by
pushing a grocery cart around while I am using it as a crutch of sorts trying
to walk straight and tall while my body wants to lean forward like it wants to
lay in the cart while my legs walk forward with my arms leaning on the cart
which then is pushing me around. It is rather humbling growing old with
potentially debilitating arthritis. I felt like I was in my mid-eighties rather
than mid-seventies. Growing old is not for spring chickens. (2023)
You needed to get that out of your system. Post. - Amorella
