Notes - 1. exercise in heartansoulanmind / Part.2 / Part.3 /& Part.4

        Up early midst lightning and thunder. Picked up the Sunday paper, but as the storm was designated as extremely dangerous because of lightning strikes you did not deliver the paper to your neighbor because of the trees. Carol did so later. Read the paper, had breakfast plus Carol’s piece of cake, which she tasted and decided she did not like. Later today you both are going to Longhorn’s or Outback for a birthday dinner. Mid-morning and Carol is still reading the paper.

         You were looking over your Belief-o-matic scores and are surprised by the order and percent of conviction of the top ten, mostly because after the top two you don’t feel your heart was really in it, the others you can see your mind working in those percentages. However, you don’t understand how the soul has any connection to any of the belief systems.

         Last night you said I need to work on recognizing my soul orientation and earlier you said that in making my choices on the Belief-o-matic quiz required soulanheartanmind.

         Why don’t you place the information Belief.com has condensed about each of the ten faiths and we can go from there. The focus is on “Belief in Deity” and how the heartansoulanmind relate to each of these faiths, keeping in mind you and I both see yourself as a raised Presbyterian converted internally by free will to a presently satisfied combination of Reform Judaism and Liberal Quaker. – Amorella.

            Also, note that other criteria used by Belief.com besides Belief in Deity are Belief In: Incarnations: Origin of Universe and Life; After Death; Why Evil; Salvation; Undeserved Suffering; and Contemporary Issues such as abortion and homosexuality. Heart – The concept of G---D is in all ten, it only takes an open mind to accept this as a common concept for G---D. This is the most basic aspect of belief as far as spirituality goes. Why does it need to go further? People are entitled to their personal beliefs beyond this basic.

Mind – The basic concept of G---D appears reasonable and still open to interpretation. Dividing G---D into three separate sub-division is not much different that my placing three dashes between the G and D. Again, personal opinions, such as my own, are personal. Not everyone or anyone else need accept them from my perspective. If G---D exists and displays a sense of reason, SheanHe might accept this, I do not know. Leave it to be between G---D and the individual. This seems reasonable.

Soul – What is worth more? Compromise and Peace or Anger, Hatred and War.

         I am surprised at the soul’s brevity. I can’t help but think of Shakespeare, Hamlet and “Brevity is the soul of wit.” Lord Polonius is anything but brief and thus the humor of the passage is increased.

         It is easy for me to let this go and think of the madness in terms of Peace or War. The quote, out of context, still fits quite well. Is that according to my soul or mind?

         Early afternoon. You had a nap. Did a chore or two, and now you are ready to continue.

         So, of the above, I could honestly say, “this is my opinion, but I don’t have my heart in it.”

         No. It is not honest and people could easily misinterpret the comment to meaning, “I don’t really care.” In this case, this example, your heart decided to agree with the soul and mind. The heart was in the decision-making and you do care about the statement. From you it is an accurate statement though from others it is your opinion. In such a case one might call you a “true believer” concerning the comment, but from your perspective belief has little to do with it.

         I don’t believe I have ever thought such a concept of communication between two people. This springs from my earlier analogy on the electric motor and soulanbodyanmindanheart.

         Yes, that is the basis for this thinking.

         For me this is a concept worth pursuing. It allows me to better understand my convictions and to better anticipate a response from someone else to my convictions.

         Except convictions are based on belief and opinion. You, when heartansoulanmind agree form a statement about yourself. The problem is the word choice for clarity. You would substitute “statement” for “conviction”.  – Amorella.

         Does this mean that my first three books are statements as they are written from heartansoulanmind (although only you, Amorella, can verify this)?

         Yes, it does. This is one of the reason you were not able to do any drastic revision (other than grammar and clarity). – Amorella.

         I would have never considered such a thing. The irony of a fiction such as mine being a statement even though it is not fact.

          I don’t see there is that much difference between this and a belief.

          A belief does not inwardly compromise. Not in here. The heart and mind might be in it, but the soul is by-passed. The soul may be brief but it has its importance. In some ways it is as a fuse, a protective devise and the reason, in these books, the heart and mind are enclosed with

in until a compromise is made. The Dead who are not shelled are compromised in the best possible light. Do you get this, boy, do you see how it works? Post. – Amorella.

        You each had a very good early dinner at Outback, ice tea, a salad, six ounce sirloin, salad, potato, and you split a piece of carrot cake for dessert. And, you found Outback is now open at eleven-thirty on Sundays so you don’t have to wait until three. Presently you are in front of Office Depot as Carol is buying a year’s worth of office supplies while they are back to school cheaper. As you are at VOA Centre the next stop is Kroger’s, then home. – Amorella.

         We have a real routine. I wonder if other people do also. In some ways it is like the subconscious motor control, Carol and I obviously put ourselves on automatic and go from week to week. In some ways it reminds me of throwing a match away from a pack as a marker for every day and never striking a one of them for its actual use.

         Now that we are at Kroger’s there is more time to go down through the ten list.

         This is how it works from you as I, Amorella, see it within. You don’t have to agree, but after the fact, you do agree on the higher plausibility of coming to an inward conclusion based on your years of teaching logic.

         I do. Once I saw these drawn out it is easy to accept where the problems fall. It reminds me of the article the other day where airplane spotters and chicken-sexers, the good ones, tried to teach others how to decide who is the enemy and whether the new born chick was male or female. It could not be taught in a traditional way. Trial and error, until the person finally figures it out – but like tying one’s shoe, it is hard to explain consciously.

Notes - S&P / Shoebox / BBC / Uncle Ernie & Amorella

        Carol gave you a funny card this morning. Very fitting and full of the humor you enjoy. Mid-morning. A cloudy day so far, Carol is hoping for rain as you haven’t had much. Last night you were both up watching MSNBC after reading about the S&P downgrading on your iPad. The blame, according to those experts on the Rachael Maddow Show was the concern on the economic politics in Congress and their potential inability to function well in the future. It took a while to return to bed and sleep as your routine had been disrupted. Jadah the cat was not too happy about the change in your routine other and let you both know it with her meows. You were all in bed, Carol was reading a novel and you were checking the iPad when the BBC had the notice on the S&P. Quiet time interrupted while she was dozing off near Carol’s feet.

         The S&P downgrading was well deserved in my mind. With so many in Congress signing the Grover Norquist’s anti-tax pledge it makes it difficult to compromise. If this catches hold more so in the next elections some will call the tax reform a conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States. Some few on the northwest coast already say so. Too many ‘absolutes’ being thrown about. Here I am at it again.

         Carol’s card is very funny. The front has a pretty lady holding a cup of coffee (tea in Carol’s case).

         It says: “What better time than your birthday to say those words I often think about but seldom say.”

         Inside the Hallmark ‘Shoebox’ card it says, “You’re so lucky.”

         So true, and she knows it. What can I say, nothing. What can I do, laugh at the reality behind the humor. It was a very well chosen card. Ah, the sun is coming out, looks like Carol is not going to get her rain wish. I think I’ll do her a favor and not bring it up.

         Thinking with my fingertips is a form of automaticity, or so it has become. I hope I do not think a thing I would totally regret.

         It has to come from the level playing field of heartansoulanmind. Besides, it is not in your nature to say something you would regret.

         Early afternoon. Carol is at the computer after doing lots of chores, and she is about to head upstairs to get ready for the community picnic, as it were. Last year some forty people showed up out of the hundred houses in the subdivision. It was a pretty good year. Few even come the street you live on.

         Neighbors Tim and Amy K. won’t be here, first time ever, because Tim and son Ben are flying into Dayton tonight from two waterlogged weeks of camping and fishing in the hinter regions Alaska. Last year was fun though. People used to come to these things when the kids were young (as they were in 1992 when the subdivision was only a year or so old). Those kids, including our own, are in their late twenties and/or thirties now. Many originals to the subdivision have moved away because of jobs or retirement. The houses sell though and no one has lost a house because of this last recession. A few have lost their jobs but found other ones as the area is still growing economically. The Mason area has a very diverse economy. We have been fortunate.

         You spent time online reading commentary about the S&P downgrading. The one that bothers you the most, let’s pop in the closing section from Mark Mardell (North American Editor, BBC), “How Washington’s politicians downgraded America”:

. . . the system, a much-loved relic of a different age, constructed for reasons little to do with the 21st Century, is almost designed to bring about dysfunctional government. The combination of a strict separation of legislature and executive, plus two-yearly congressional elections, all but encourages having different parties in control of different bits of government.

Americans are likely to bemoan the failure of politicians to bridge an apparently unbridgeable gap between two different world views. They may put their faith in Washington politicians, in an outburst of patriotism and goodwill, stumbling on a synthesis that suits all sides. But I wonder whether any of them will muse that the system itself may not be fit for purpose.

         It bothers me because he may be correct, our governmental system, as is, may not be fit for modern times. Few over here like to talk about such things, which to me shows we may be in worse shape than we think. Blame the bankers, blame the politicians, blame the system – now where have we heard that before.

         Almost time for bed. Everyone who showed up appeared to have had a good time. It lasted to dusk and about thirty people took part. This time some were younger and brought their children – so actually you think maybe forty were there. You spend part of your time speaking to a personable fellow from Porto Rico who works for Cintas internationally.

         Just a few minutes ago Uncle Ernie called to wish you a happy birthday. You are so happy he and Aunt Patsy are still alive and promised him a voice version of Chapters Six and Seven when you get the new program. They find it hard to believe you are sixty-nine when they can vividly remember like it was yesterday on seeing you in the hospital the day after you were born. “You were so tiny,” were Uncle Ernie’s words and they were said with so much sincere affection that it rattles your heart. – Amorella.

         I love them both. Uncle Ernie has been like a father to me my whole life. I remember him playing with me and tossing me about when I was three years old. He is the most wonderful man in my life.

         You have always been good at sensing the truth from your heart, even if it is not always want to hear. Listening to your mind is not so difficult either; however, we will have to work on listening to your soul, to its vibrations, to have a fully understanding of who and what you are. Notes - spinning brain&mind / other species have / Cern / VOA to solar storm

        Mid-morning. I mowed the front and southeast sides, now I wait until the afternoon shadows to finish. I was sitting on a dining room chair in front of a fan on the edge of the living room cooling when I thought that the spin as it slows down freely (in the analogy) it might land on soul or heart or mind or even body. This might cause a like feeling to bubble up seemingly out of nowhere and jar a memory or tears or a smile and the individual might wonder what cause herorhim to think or consider such a thing. That the shaman when sheorhe winds up or settles down is in tune with the spin. It the spin slows at a ‘natural’ pace the jarring effects do not become so pronounced and sheorhe feels ‘free’ where it counts most. Is such an hypothesis realistic in the books – could this be used to describe Merlyn’s conflicts in moods or considerations?

         It has potential. – Amorella.

         This reminds me of a free spin on TV’s Wheel of Fortune. Only this spin is in the unconscious or subconscious. There is an article in the newest, the September issue of Discover that triggered these thoughts. “The Secret Life of the Mind, [The subconscious knows many things that your conscious self does not.]” by David Eagleman [neurologist]:

         . . . “The ability to remember motor acts like changing [driving] lanes is called procedural memory, and it is a type of implicit memory – meaning that your brain holds knowledge of something your mind cannot explicitly access. Riding a bike, tying your shoes, typing on a keyboard, and steering your car into a parking space while speaking on your cell phone are examples of this. You execute these actions easily but without knowing the details of how you do it. You would be totally unable to describe the perfectly timed choreography with which your muscles contract and relax as you navigate around other people in a cafeteria while holding a tray, yet you have no trouble doing it.  This is the gap between what your brain can do and what you can tap into consciously.

         The concept of implicit memory has a rich, if little known tradition. . . . Psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus . . . wrote that “most of these experiences remain concealed from consciousness and yet produce an effect which is significant and which authenticates their previous existence.”

         To the extent that consciousness is useful, it is useful in small quantities, and for very particular kinds of tasks. It’s easy to understand why you would not want to be consciously aware of the intricacies of your muscle movement, but this can be less intuitive when applied to your perceptions, thoughts and beliefs, which are also final products of the activity of billions of nerve cells. . . .”

         Orndorff, this works within the context of the last few days of the postings. Thus, I support the concepts, particularly in the last paragraph quoted. – Amorella.

         I see this subconscious muscle tasking in every downward stroke on the keyboard. This goes back to holding the string with the washer between my first finger and thumb as I was taught by the psychologist (self-hypnosis) at the University of Cincinnati in the eighties. It is a curious aspect of the brain and not the mind. The mind need not be bothered about such tasks.

        After an hour or so nap you had half a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch (Carol had already eaten) and some very old freezer laden peppermint ice cream for dessert (try Christmas). Carol is reading the new Time and you received a note from Doug and likewise replied. Here are your notes:

I was watching "Through the Worm Hole" again. They showed a guy who had created particles which were waves at the same time. They showed them passing thru the double slit and how the wave part of the particle created the interference pattern. These particles were not quantum mechanical. They now postulate that light is a particle and wave simultaneously as were these particles. There was one PhD who thinks we got lost on quantum physics when we accepted the uncertainty principle. He is quite sure that quantum mechanics is real but we need to add one more dimension and quantum particles will act like regular matter. Interesting. Also they pointed out that one of the problems in quantum gravity is that it appears that space and time are not connected at this level and that is why it appears that a particle can be in two places at the same time. Much to contemplate here.

Very interesting, yes. Thanks for the thoughts. Wow. No space and time - it "appears" that a particle can be in two places at once. Something to really sit down and think about. I was reading someplace (BBC ?) that there is a hypothesis that our universe is embedded in a black hole in another universe. Never remember hearing that concept before. No. It was in the letters to the editor, September, Discover. Here is what it says: [She is writing about "Beyond the Event Horizon" I suppose in last month's issue.]

"Although it was not explicitly said in the article, the implication of Andrew Hamilton's research is clearly that our known universe is cocooned in a black hole, which in turn is probably in a larger universe cocooned in a black hole. Instead of the folkloric vision of "turtles all the way down," perhaps it is actually "black holes all the way out." 

Very funny. I like the word "folkloric" another word I do not ever remember seeing before. Have a great day!

         You are puzzled by the seeming ability of a particle to be in two places at once. You deliberately quoted “appears” because you think it is another one of nature’s illusions, meaning one of human beings’ natural illusions.

         I did until you bring it up and I think of the Native Americans observing the first Spanish ships and not really seeing them for what they were, or even seeing them, because the ship was not a part of their natural reality. Reality and illusion of reality is a slippery road that most people would just as soon stay off of. Yet, it is so fundamental in our existence and our behavior as a species. Quantum Mechanics allows human beings to reasonably pursue concepts that would otherwise be thought as nothing but fancy; but imagination alone. If someone can create a particle that is also a wave this show (me) the reality of a particlewave. I assume it can be replicated. I have not seen the latest episode of “Through the Worm Hole.” 

        This is a very interesting world/universe, but it is our human interpretation of the world/universe, which may be very narrow indeed. Oh for an alien life form with an aside intelligence by which we might communicate and learn something, that is a long ago secret wish of mine. Wave-an-particle doesn’t sound so solid does it? Particle goes first. Is it our grammatical nature to do so because we, as solid bodies, are first. Body-an-brain before thought alone. We cannot afford to see them as thought first, to do so provides a crack in our armor as flesh and blood real beings in a stone and water world. The concept of ‘chaos’ is not even a reality for us, I think. It is something impossible for us to know and to understand. Reality is a word tipped human. It is something we can never know.

         You took long enough to arrive at your conclusion. I disagree though, human beings can earn a hint of ‘Reality’ if the species survives long enough. It doesn’t take much of a quantum leap to realize other species have. Post. - Amorella

Yes I saw a segment on "thru the worm hole" where it was postulated we were inside a black hole inside a black hole. Beyond my comprehension! If we were inside a black hole why are we not all squished? I really think this is too flaky.

But it is clear that reality is probably not what it seems. On "thru the worm hole" they were discussing how to detect with the Cern accelerator the "chameleon" which is supposed to be the particle that carries the dark energy force, the 5th force of nature and [that] makes up 76 percent of the universe!

         Doug confirms my existence to me in a way others cannot. We do not have to agree (though we usually do, at least in part. He knows so much more science and physics than I do). At least we enjoy the science and the speculation.

        Out mowing. One more section to go and it is growing darker. It may rain later tonight. I am thinking that we are biochem-pods, with brains adaptable to minds. Other biochem-pod species could relate. This allows for a variety of sense organs with which to recognise the reality; 1, to survive and mature to procreate the species; and 2, to reason and to speculate to manipulate the environment so that the species might survive the odds of not surviving. Need to go finish the yard.

         Later, you are over at the VOA Shopping Centre. Hard for you to believe this was the southwest section of the Voice of America’s Bethany Station. You used to listen to it regularly along with the BBC when you were living in Brazil some many years ago now.

         When we used to live at 800 Majken Drive in Mason we were within a quarter of a mile of the huge antennae complex scattered over acres north of Tylersville Road Bethany Station stretched from Cox Road where we are now, over to Butler-Warren County Line Road where we lived near. The WLW tower still sits not too far from VOA east on Tylersville Road. In the thirties WLW was a 500,000 watt station and could be heard in China and most everywhere else. Cincinnati was a big communications center in those days. And, it still would be if Ted Turner had stayed here rather than moving on to Atlanta.

         Funny, I have a few readers from overseas and some of them probably had parents or grandparents who used to listen to the VOA from Bethany or even Cincinnati’s WLW from time to time. The Internet is so marvelous – I am glad to have lived so long as to be able to make use of it. A reader or two helps keep me wanting to wake up in the morning, to be of some potential use to someone. That was what teaching was all about, made me feel useful.

         When Carol returns from Hallmark you are off to Graeter’s for an ice cream treat, then to Kroger’s. Tomorrow night we have a potluck supper in front of your house – to show community support. Carol is on the committee.

         We have been using our front yard for several years. We have two large trees which shade the cul-de-sac starting about five o’clock. While at Graeter’s we picked up two pieces of different cakes for tomorrow. It is cheaper than a whole cake, and two people don’t need a whole cake anyway. There is so much traffic at Kroger’s this afternoon. This place is always busy. Carol doesn’t like me going in because I have a tendency to pick up snacks we don’t need or snacks that I like and she doesn’t.

         Lots of people are going in and coming out of the grocery. You like to observe your species so go to it. – Amorella.

         People sure come in a lot of sizes and shapes, most in very casual dress (though a few coming in from work, professional and otherwise). Some kids look just like the parent(s) and others like they are no close relation. It’s interesting to see their walk; kids mimic their parents so much. I guess, like the article says – subconscious motor control. Not many smiles or frowns – just the business of running errands before the weekend.  Just saw a younger woman go in with a low cut back top and she has black inked angel wings tattooed from the upper center of her spine across her back. They are not large but I have never seen anything like it. Maybe they weren’t angel wings but biker wings instead, more than likely biker wings. She didn’t look that angelic.

         I found a couple of forwards and a notice from Space Weather about a Class M solar storm in progress. People can see the northern lights in Germany tonight. Very cool. I saw them a few times in the mid-fifties in Minerva Park (south of Westerville) while delivering morning papers. Very cool indeed. The worry, of course, is a Class X solar storm – it could cause major blackouts around the world.
