Before noon. You just finished using the exercise machine. Twelve exercises. Six for legs and six for upper body.
I am still breathing hard. Unbelievable. I put the weights at three down to start again. Pushes and pulls. The same exercises I was put on when I bought the machine in 2003. I used it for two years then puttered around until I didn’t use it at all. At least it still works. My body though, particularly my legs when pulling sideways, I had to put the weights down to one. They still ache, certainly more than my arms which were fairly easy exercises. I stumbled again, when starting on the machine, but feel better for having finished them for today. This machine comes first, after I am accustom to it I’ll begin using the treadmill walker. The basement needs cleaned up, clutter put away, but I’ll work on it some each day. It is the exercises that are important here. Physical coming up in December and a trip west in the spring to look forward to.
Last night, after you shut the computer down you had a ‘flash’ of ancient tribes symbolically coming forth like each of the prophecies of the witches come forth to MacBeth near Birnam Wood.
This shows you are on point because that is how it will be. A randomly respected civil person from each tribe who is not a shaman will be delivered to Takis and taken in as guests by Mother herself. Each will be a mix of Salaman, Kassandra, Thales, and Mario – counterparts, if you will of the other cultures of the Dead. They in return to their common cultures will teach the others of how it will be.
I will also borrow information about civilization meeting an indigenous tribe in the Amazon, the film, you saw in Brazil, on how the small tribe gave up its worth, bought out by stainless steel knives and cooking materials. The film left a lasting impression, a sadness, and an understanding of how it must be when a culture has a ‘realization’ that things can be better than humans can create solely within their own group.
This is where we are today in the world. Cultures intermixing and not enjoying the realization that they have to find a way to live peacefully for their own good, first. It is sad. And, one day, I feel, this will hit home in the United States. Perhaps it already has. We are no different here than elsewhere no matter what people may think. It is cultural shock indeed and this will continue.
To leapfrog this concept into the books and think of how it would be if people realized there were human-like aliens who lived better than we do, and that the ‘parental’ Dead may influence their Living children whether they like it or not. That would indeed be an accelerating (yes, accelerating) experience even in imagination as far as I am concerned.
I am thinking this scene ought to be a fun challenge, and perhaps a little longer than usual. Playing up the ‘returning warmth of the body that isn’t’ with a bit of Karma Sutra like motions – described politely, of course. Body and mind self-trickery. That should provide some humor.
Just post, orndorff.
Late lunch at Cracker Barrel and a stop at Kroger’s on Mason-Montgomery Road on the way home. You checked for Karma Sutra online and found what you needed – with a bonus of three dimensional marble statues depicting many of the positions.
I am thinking it would be funny to describe just a part of a position – have a short conversation between the two – then return to another partial position and let the reader’s imagination do the rest.
Sounds like a plan. Do you want to save time and just go down the list with descriptions then put in the conversation later in a kind of juxtaposition?
I hadn’t thought that, but I like it. Might come up with something funnier.
Why don’t we go down the list, somehow sliding the name or number of the position in the process. The statures are explicit but classically artistic -- not pornographic as such, at least not in your mind.
This sounds like a fun way to go. Kroger’s does not have wi-fi however, so I will have to wait until we are home. And, at seven thousand years old, my characters could have read the Karma Sutra for themselves. Very funny. All this from watching a preview of ‘Outsourced’ online the other day. Who would have thought.
The importance of circumstance, orndorff, cannot be underestimated. Circumstance allows for a human being’s existence and the many paths all lead to the same place.
Just like the Karma Sutra paths. Ha! Good joke.
Human humor, old man.
I thought you liked gallows humor, Amorella.
To a point. Such humor allows a better survival for some who would otherwise find life depressing.
As my friend Steve always used to say, “Cheer up, things are bound to get worse.” But here we are still around.
