Notes - Weather & MacAir & literary theme

Mid-morning. You did not sleep well as the ice was thick and covered the trees. A major limb in back bent over the deck and you were afraid it was going to snap. It would have destroyed the deck and perhaps part of the back of the house. Three other large trees set on the north side of the house and Carol suggested you sleep in the guests’ rooms, which you did. Fortunately the temperature rose above freezing long enough to deplete the ice from the trees, but not before you lost your crab apple tree on the south side. Half of it is lying across the driveway. It also broke one of the lamps at the side of the garage on the way down. Later you are going to cut it so that the cars can be removed from the garage. You are thankful for the splurge of warm air to melt the ice before the cold winds returned, which they have.

I do not remember a worse ice storm in terms of potential damage to the house. At least we didn’t get the snow they did in Chicago. Cleveland didn’t either. Kim said they have six inches of new snow but for the east side this is near nothing. We still have at least four weeks of Winter, but the days are getting longer, that is always one of the first signs of changing seasons. We used to have a pear tree on the south side of the house too, now we will have none close to the house. Three bird feeders went down with the tree but there is no reason not to scatter seed near the trunk and presently one attached perpendicular limb.

My suggestion is that you buy the eleven inch MacBook Air, you will be quite satisfied with the change. – Amorella.

That is a surprising statement. It rolled out before I had a chance to think on it.

         How often does that happen?

Not often actually, more of a figure of speech.

You like new things, orndorff. If you end up with something else you will always regret not buying the next best thing available in terms of computers for your personal use. The Air will fit the bill better. You take it everywhere now. Kim’s computer bag present will easily hold both the Air and your iPad, what more do you need.

Nothing really. It is good to know what is going on inside. Thank you. You get to the heart of the matter, Amorella, for me personally, you do.

Keeping you honest with yourself, boy. Nothing more. Post. – Amorella.

Almost twenty-one hundred hours. You just watched one of your science fiction shows, ‘V’, and are surprised ‘the soul’ is coming up positive, such as a way to change the enemy into a friend as is witnessed though some of the characters. A more metaphysical angle than bacteria that defeated the enemy aliens in War of Worlds. You rather like the concept because it doesn’t run ‘alien’ to the Merlyn series for which you are grateful.

Yes. I am still interested in ‘V’ as a series. The problem is that I remember the storybook computer program that many of the TV writers have used, at least twirling snippets of, and I have a ‘lite’ version of it on disk myself. Too many generated plots and characters and themes. Some writers are more clever than others. One of the reasons I enjoy the old “Poirot” and “Inspector Morris” and “Inspector Lewis” series as well as Masterpiece Theatre productions. Agathia Christie had her characters and plots, but they were Agathia Christie, not a conglomeration of ‘how to write a modern television or movie script’ to catch the sellable audience. One of the underlying and notable differences between The Social Network and The King’s Speech. At least the Merlyn series is free of that, or I hope it is.

You brought that Storybook disk up in a junior honors English class that you taught for a week while the teacher, your friend and colleague, Angie E., was taken ill. So, you do have some of the devices used at your disposal. – Amorella.

True. But that was years ago, 2004 or 2005. I had them write an outline as I wanted them to see how one aspect of the world of writing works these days. The intent was to help them think more critically when they view television or movie productions.

Isn’t this also the underlying intent of the Merlyn series?

If you create the script from my heartansoulanmind, then it is, though it may be deeply buried. To think critically is one of my passions, it was when I taught and it is today.

This then gives me reason to show you why you are debating which Apple Air to buy, the eleven inch screen or the thirteen inch screen. You tallied up your money today, and Carol gifted you five hundred more to make such a purpose. Always five hundred out of the general fund for a laptop every three to four years. No more. You have to save for the rest from your allowance.

I know. I enjoy it. Today I counted sixty-four dollars in change I had saved up to add to my collection. Plus, I have four hundred new dollars from a retirement fund I receive once a year about this time. When counting the change I mentioned to Carol that it brings back one of the joys of my early life. Each week I would collect for the weekly paper I delivered. Fifteen dollars went to the paper carrier that brought the papers and I kept what was left, usually five to seven dollars a week. I always enjoyed the counting. I feel better saving for my toys, only the computer is not a toy to me, it is an extension of my life, of my heartansoulanmind. I need to make sure this computer is an extension I can live with for the next three to five years. My mind says to go with the thirteen inch screen, my heart, the eleven inch screen. So, here I am, still in this intimately personal debate.

The human struggle between heart and mind returns to one of the earliest of literary themes, man versus himself. You do see the humor here, do you not?

         I do. Real life.

All for tonight. Continue your debate, continue looking for the best deals. You might head to the Kenwood Apple store tomorrow while Carol is at her luncheon. Fifty dollars here, fifty dollars there. You might come up with a deal you can live with. Post. – Amorella.
