Notes - Yesterday and Today

You are presently passing over the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in a so far excellent Southwest flight to Los Vegas worked for more than an hour as well as read. I am going to switch gears after these initial and revised paragraphs in scene six and focus on the Living and the things the Dead do not realize. The Living may not realize these things either, but that’s what makes this book fun for me. – Amorella.

In flight to Tucson and you have free wireless so you might as well use it. Add your revision and addition to scene six and post. – Amorella.

Scene 6

The Supervisor is as a MINDandRULES personified, a weightless balloon, metaphorically speaking, in the circumference of five universes each averaging about the size of the one the reader exists in, the one containing the Milky Way galaxy. Each universe in the form of a serving plate, let’s say, has a similar composition of seventy percent dark energy, twenty-five percent dark matter, and five percent normal matter.

SheanHe, the Supervisor, is formed as an independent consciousness of the Who, What, Where and How of measurable performance in physics that can be understood within themselves, that is, within spacetime, matter-energy, and physical law, each of the three a selection of the composition of the Supervisor.

The Supervisor observes spacetime, matter-energy and physics within the seed of what exists in all things great and small in five universes. Matter is to an unimaginable Mind in a soul casing small. Gravity is as the pumping heart and its obliging system radiated circulation, a necessary and thus useful friction that rubs life like a poorly struck match which may end up seemingly as useful as the crumbling, almost chaotic remains of a cigarette it once lit. The Supervisor is thus as the cover on a cheap pack of matches or, if you will, the lid on the tempest (the matter and matter-less formanfunctional change a-brewing) in a teapot, even when the teapot appears less than the five seemingly larger universal plates that dwell within it.

The five plates are rotated as one, transported in a circle, with the matter-n-mind juggler, the matched Supervisor, tip-toeing a dance on faint waves of gravity. The ancient Greek concept of the Earth as the center of the universe turned into the hole in Carroll’s rabbit -- an inside out reversing of imagination to a reality of plain existential circumstance in a secret alphabet with an extra indefinable letter. Something not much different from the humanity jammed into the species: homo sapiens.

This is not much different than an eternal black hole, one without charge and rotation. Matter, minds and souls all, particle-like falling into time without a past or future and yet pierce the heart of what is outside and in. Heartansoulanmind, nothing new, nothing more than the initial banging of a cored black hole a non-kernel form, into white and the cosmology of a baby universe is born.

A perspective, more accurate than you might imagine be you Dead or Alive. Threading the needle. Needling the thread. Rotating crops. Cropping rotations.

Alas, you could receive but not send. Landing in forty to forty-five minutes. Later, dude.

You had great flights and Craig and Alta met you at the airport, helped with the baggage. Good supper, potato salad, chips and bratwursts on buns and Alta came up with coconut chip pudding pie for dessert. Good discussions on numerous topics. Wonderful being back in the great Southwest. No wireless so, better to a post a day late, there is a Starbucks two minutes away.

31 March 11

Craig made a good bacon, cheese, egg and tomato sandwich, strawberries and banana for breakfast. Tomorrow we are eating breakfast at one of their favorite places heading east towards New Mexico, White Sands Missile Base and Trinity Site.

“Manhattan Project was created by the United States government in 1942 to produce the first atomic bomb. The official agency that produced the bomb was the Corps of Engineers' Manhattan Engineer District, commanded by Major (later Lieutenant) General Leslie R. Groves. Physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer directed the design and building of the bomb. Industrial and research activities took place at such sites as Los Alamos, New Mexico; Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Hanford, Washington.
The idea for the project began in 1939, shortly before World War II began. United States scientists feared Germany might be the first country to develop an atomic bomb. They alerted President Franklin D. Roosevelt to this possibility. Manhattan Project scientists successfully exploded the first atomic bomb on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico.”

Almost noon and the four of you have your September trip planned to Maine. Craig and Alta will fly to Cleveland, you will pick them up and drive to Bar Harbor, Maine for a few days, then down to Boston area for a couple days then back to Cleveland. Pumped. This is probably it for the day. Tomorrow night you will have wireless at the motel in New Mexico. – Amorella.

An excellent lunch at Tohono Chul and surprising it is only two blocks catty-cornered from the shopping center where the Congresswoman Giffords was shot in January.

I bought a souvenir, a polished black spirit stone with a “Man in a Maze” which means “life’s journey; life’s choices”, well, supposedly. The second choice was “The Hand” which has a spiral meaning “strength, healing, friendship”.

Late afternoon. You are winding down from a busy and fun day. Post. – Amorella.

Notes - travel prep / for self-enlightenment / copyright's purpose? / self-test?

Shortly after noon. Some chores and errands completed and you are in the middle of mowing the yard. Number one priority at this time is completed, boarding passes. You are feeling much better – the rest of the day for the trip is cake as far as you are concerned.  Carol has her hair appointment in less than an hour and has decided what she is wearing to the airport. The rest, alas, is not completed though she has the bed full of outfits, etc. You would just pull a couple to take and that’s it. Why these things are such decision problems you have never understood.

Whatever is in the closet is acceptable as it is already in the closet. Pick out what is clean and go with it, that’s my take on packing for a trip. Unfortunately, Carol does not always agree. I told her what I was wearing to the airport and she said, “That sounds preppy, I’ll go with this or this, what do you think?” What I am wearing is what was clean and a shirt and sweater for peeling if it gets too hot. Nothing preppy about it. I look bulkier in jeans and haven’t worn them since the seventh grade. Why are jeans not preppy? This stuff makes my head reel. Too much energy spent on something you are wearing for a day. I’m done. Back to the mowing.

             Post. – Amorella.

Surprise when Carol returned, she wanted to go to Longhorn’s, so you went. Excellent as usual, plus your server, Jennifer, said she wouldn’t be in Saturday as she and her husband are moving to a house, for which she is duly excited. You mentioned your trip as why you won’t be here Saturday so you had more than your usual chat. You and Carol were both hungry so it was a more than delightful choice for lunch.

Back to yesterday’s discussion. You are in a quandary because, although I set the stage for the scene and characters you have a feeling you have heard and seen of them before. First, and foremost you don’t want to be boring to yourself. This is one of your old fears, that if you are boring others will also perceive you as boring.

Well, when you don’t have much going for you, you have to come up with something. Humor and story-telling always helped get my students through my long involve, and I am assuming this blog is pretty much like a lecture that no one is forced to come to, so I would like my thoughts to be entertaining anyway. I, strangely enough, enjoy having audience. Too many years in the classroom, I guess. I like to think I am still of some value to society. Gives some sense of self-worth and dignity in retirement. That’s pretty much what it comes down to. So, that’s where I’m coming from, it?

Those are your real thoughts if that is what you are asking. – Amorella.

Some thoughts are not well-thought, ‘entertaining’ is not the right word. ‘self-enlightening’ is better, but this is not polite to my kind readers.

Self-enlightening is entertaining from your perspective, but yes, it is not so polite to readers, who kind or not, come in second. It is honest though rather blunt. You were writing notes to yourself with me as a format (as it were) since the mid-eighties with no readers but Fritz Milligan, your long time friend and attorney. As such you are being consistent as they have always been ‘self-enlightening’ – what else, as they are still ‘experimental writing’ as they were then. When it comes to copyrights Fritz is a good friend and witness to have, don’t you think?

I suppose. I don’t see why copyright is important if eventually I will give the books away online for free. What makes the difference?

I make the difference, boy. Big business rules the world, but it doesn’t rule me. If people want the business, I’ll give it to them for a price.

We talked about this long ago, Amorella. I signed a personal contract to give my first readers a percent of profit after I took in a certain amount. I don’t know why you had me do that in writing, it is rather embarrassing, as I didn’t make any money, but it is not embarrassing that I would give them each a certain amount. I suppose it has to do with human dignity. It is a part of our culture. However, I have worked passed the profit angle, it was fairly easy to do. I write for the enjoyment of sharing what’s in my head with whoever is interested. It costs me nothing but added pleasure in retirement.

Well, boy, I don’t see it that way. From my perspective nothing is free. A price will be paid. That’s the way life and death is in these books and blog and that’s the way it will be. – Amorella.

Fine. Whatever you say, Amorella. I need to check over last minute items, I don’t want to forget my laptop, iPad and Tom-Tom.

Carol is finishing her packing, and you might as well do so too. Later, dude. Post. – Amorella.

On NBC News tonight the program ended with their “Making a Difference” series – this time it focused on the volunteering Dutch speaking Mennonites from northern states still helping Katrina victims as they have been doing since the Katrina event five years ago. You were surprised how it stirred your ‘center’ self. No names please, they implied, as humility is the virtue not pride.

It reminds me that the virtues of the Pilgrims still exists in some religious (spiritually guided) communities.

You have a problem using the word ‘religious’ when spiritual will do.

It is a personal opinion.

Do you have good reason?

I would hope so, but it comes down to my beliefs concerning the meaning of ‘transcendental existentialist’ for me, for my centeredness. I was stirred because the Mennonites show a good demonstration of living by their faith and cultural community standards. My centeredness was stirred by their centeredness. Nothing more than this.

That will do.

Was this some sort of self-testing my own personal standards?

Questions clarify thought. I was providing some, nothing more, nothing less, as you sometimes are so quick to think or say.  All for tonight and until you have time during travel and/or get settled with Craig and Alta in Tucson. – Amorella.

Notes - done to death

Late afternoon. Lots of chores and errands today. Later, dude.

Moving on twenty-three hundred hours. More chores, time to watch “The Event” and police the kitchen. You are thinking the day has been pretty well spent. However, I can complete an outline of scene six. As you can see the Supervisor is less than you supposed in the beginning, secretly in your head you had HeranHim as a creature somewhat higher than an ArchAngel in an earthling platitude of Beings, messengers, if you will from on High.

On “The Event” tonight you noted an allusion to Chariots of the Gods by Enrich von Daniken with the astronaut-like angels on the cave wall.

It’s been done to death, Amorella as the show demonstrated tonight. I don’t want to go along those lines – in fact, it appears that what you pick out of my head to use is ordinary human because I have read and seen ordinary plots and themes. If you conjured up something quite un-human the stories would not lend itself to communication.

So, the Supervisor is just what SheanHe is, an engineering  technician. Not to compare apples with oranges here but humans are not in the same league – different values, different goals, different form and function.

More tomorrow. Carol is calling. Post. – Amorella.

27 March 2011

Notes - home safely

Up before eight and you are packed and also ready to go to breakfast at First Watch, Yours Truly, or Tommy’s. More later, boy. – Amorella.

A special treat for breakfast is Yours Truly on Shaker Square. With twenty-foot ceilings, the interior has the appearance of an old bank, the waffle, pancakes, and omelets were excellent and everyone is well satisfied. You and Carol are staying doing laundry and babysitting for a while as Kim and Paul are going to run errands. Owen has two canines and two molars coming in to live with the eight his mouth already has. Owen is an energetic, growing and happy toddler who smiles broadly when he sees those he knows best.

You are tired and have some chores to do. This is it for today as you arrived home safely a couple of hours ago. – Amorella.

Checked our luggage and have to buy some new as the dimensions of carry on are less than they were. What I used to use as carry on is now baggage class. At least Southwest has two free baggage limits. My carry on is two inches more depth than standard. We are already working on our list of things to do before Wednesday. Traveling is always exciting. Traveling with friends is even more exciting.

You and Carol felt bad leaving Jadah because she doesn't have any say in where she stays. However, she seemed more content than usual and appears to understand that "We'll be back" means that you will. Besides, Jadah gets along with Paul and especially Kim. Not so much Owen as she avoids him when he attempts to run to catch her. She and Ellie are cats and thus act accordingly when together or when alone. Tomorrow, dude, chores and errands. Post. - Amorella.

Notes - vanity / raw drafting intro of scene 6, ch.7, bk.4

You have been awake since four and it is almost six. After an hour of lying in bed you came downstairs and are sitting on the couch. You have been experimenting with Radio Gaia on your Air. The first time you have bookmarked music on this machine. World ambient, spiritual and chill out music, great for relaxation, that’s how you hear it.

This doesn’t relate to the books or blog. Besides, next you’ll show me watching the music visualizations and pretending I’m eating magical mushrooms or something of that sort. “Tripping” would not do me much and actually be a disservice to my mind that’s how I see it. I get along quite well as is, thank you very much. No utopias laced with rainbows in this blog please. No offence, but I’m just not that kind of guy, Amorella.

No one said you were, buddy boy. Why the defense? Vanity is what it sounds like to me, old man. What do you think?

I guess. The radio service asked me to place it on Facebook and I couldn’t bring myself to do it because I thought I would sound like a new ager with crystals and all that.

But you used the image in the book, the crystals and the cemetery. – Amorella.

I did, yes. I was cool with that. What it comes down to is that I don’t want the books to be classified that way. The few weeks one of the books was actually on a Barnes and Noble bookshelf (store off Fields-Ertel Road near Mason) they had it in science fiction I think but I wanted it in Fiction (literary), even experimental fiction would be fine but with Merlyn connected to the books some even think of it as fantasy on the online bookstores. Maybe it was my first book, before the Merlyn series. I’m probably confused here; that was in 2001. In any case, I am sensitive to the concept of me sucking on mysterious plants or smoking pot or delighting in some exotic mushroom fare. Can we drop this and move on to something else?

You need to chill out, my man. Later. Post as a reminder of how you can be a prickly needle on a special Native American cactus sometimes, except rather than residing in the grand southwest you are in a mideastern state instead. No New Age for you. You reside in olden times in the Beatnik era. That was so way cool cat, man. Float your ego downstream. Those days are real gone, old man. – Amorella. Post. Dude.

Early afternoon. You are at the Aurora Outlet Mall; Paul is sleeping in the driver’s seat, Owen in the back seat with Kim and Carol shopping at OshKosh B’gosh. A bright sunny day all day. Lunch earlier in the busy Olive Garden at Harvard Plaza southeast of University Heights.

Owen woke up. Paul took him out for a stroller ride. Cool and crisp and now with the window down, your kind of weather. Let’s go to scene six.

Moving on twenty-three hundred hours and you and Paul just finished watching and enjoying Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Earlier you worked on the first part of scene six but are rather embarrassed because you didn’t continue to expand what you have, but that can come later. Tomorrow, breakfast out then you will head home, perhaps stopping for lunch on the way home. Here is what you have drafted so far.

The Supervisor observes spacetime, matter-energy and physics within the seed of what exists in all things great and small, five universes, mind and matter in size, to an unimaginable soul small. Gravity is as the pumping heart and it obliging system of circulation, a necessary and thus useful friction that rubs life like a poorly struck match which may end up seemingly as useful as the crumbling, almost chaotic remains of a cigarette it once lit. The Supervisor is thus as the cover on a cheap pack of matches or the lid on the tempest (the matter and matter-less formanfunctional change brewing) in a teapot, even the teapot appears less in size than the five seemingly larger plates that dwell within it.

***

This is very much a first draft. I am enjoying added tidbits as they come to me on my own. I assume I will continue to expand what I have before I continue on with the raw material supplied by Amorella herself. Here’s the post.

Notes - you're the legal /

Late mid-morning. Lots of chores are completed and your focus is on being up to Cleveland between four and five this afternoon. I can see you are concerned on “consistency” as that is what you always stressed to students in writing. I used the twelve hour designation rather than the twenty-four. You always said you would rather have a word spelled right, but if not, at least spell it consistently wrong. On seeing this in a sentence you wonder what message you were really getting across.

I think I always said it with a smile, most always anyway. Looking at the words it doesn’t seem so orthodox as far as grammar is concerned. I like patterns orthodox or not. Habits. Habitual, no doubt.

A good reason to use the word “non-circumciseable” in the Tree’s Story, you see. It presents a message for those who are listening. – Amorella.

I can see it now, but not when I was reading it.

A help in knowing what to look for. These stories are indeed as a dream, boy. They come from the same place in the brain and mind. Symbols galore. That’s part of the fun of reading. Doubt, you see, and interpretation. What a better way to make a story. Post. – Amorella

People don’t have time for such things, Amorella. Everyone is busy with herorhis own life and I can’t say that I blame them.

You have time, and the interest. That’s why you’re the legal in this business. That’s also why there’s a copyright, boy. You’re the legal guardian of Merlyn and book and blog, and all but me, Amorella. Enjoy your visit. Now post. – Amorella.

Notes - Quantum Nose / Indi-Thinkers! /sc.6 setting / Questions

This morning you discovered a bit of news on BBC that may help show how the brain has a sense of the quantum.

Quantum physics explanation for smell gains traction
By Jason Palmer, Science and technology reporter, BBC News, Dallas

The theory that our sense of smell has its basis in quantum physics events is gaining traction, say researchers.

The idea remains controversial, but scientists reporting at the American Physical Society meeting in Dallas, US, are slowly unpicking how it could work. The key, they say, is tiny packets of energy, or quanta, lost by electrons. Experiments using tiny wires show that as electrons move on proteins within the nose, odor molecules could absorb these quanta and thereby be detected.
If the theory is right, by extending these studies, an "electronic nose" superior to any chemical sensor could be devised.. . .

Room to move
The difficulty is demonstrating a physical system where this kind of detective work can be accomplished - to show a start and an endpoint to the process. Dr Horsfield and his collaborators have demonstrated nanowires - wires just billionths of a metre across - that can act as the "room" of the analogy. They showed how electrons could arrive at on end of these nanowires and give away what molecules they had encountered along the way. Jennifer Brookes, a University College London researcher based at MIT, carries out computer simulations on the quantum physics at work in the process, in order to put it on a firmer mathematical footing. "It's a very interesting idea; there's all sorts of interesting biological physics that implement quantum processes that's cropping up," she told BBC News. "I believe it's time for the idea to develop and for us to get on with testing it." Her presentation suggested that the vibrational theory of smell, at least as quantum physics is concerned, is a reasonable one. "Mathematically, the theory is robust, and even if it's not happening in smell, it's interesting to think it might be a discriminatory process in nature in other ways," she said.

This is really interesting. I like the line by Brooks: "It's a very interesting idea; there's all sorts of interesting biological physics that implement quantum processes that's cropping up,"

Time has slipped away, boy. Carol has been cleaning for the last few minutes and you are sitting in the chair having done nothing since straightening up the bedroom.

Indeed it has. I thought it was about twelve and it’s more than an hour later than that. I am partly timid about tackling today because I know next to nothing and still can’t imagine where you are going with the dark matter and gravity. I would rather ease into it, which I guess is the reason for the delay.

The BBC material on quantum mechanics and the sense of smell shows you can move into these things as far as general hypotheses are concerned. It makes the fiction more plausible to those with like interests.

You need to take the material from Doug’s letter on the day before yesterday and put it in the edited document on the Wiki-universe.

What we’ll do here is do one more editing that will be used in this next scene, then I will show you how the scene goes. – Amorella.

I can live with that. Thank you.

          Time for lunch. Post. Amorella.

Earlier today, upon awakening, you found you had a delightful message from one of your former AP students, Chizoba U. She is the epitome of the many independent thinking students you have had in your career. What made the message so delightful? She has a broad world background with a degree in aerospace engineering, working for a large well-established oil field service company. (You envy her ‘beginning at a young age’ world travel). The delight? She is, as a fully responsible adult citizen of the world, still an independent thinking person.

A respectful tip of the old black beret to Chizoba, and all those like her around the world. You people know who you are.

This is delayed as you were waiting for permission to use her first name and initial. Post. – Amorella.

The notes on dark matter and gravity have been reduced to three pages from which material will be drawn for scene six of chapter seven. Scene five ended thusly:

“Takis sensed his mindanheart strewn about by Gloama’s angry words directed solely at him. He found himself without the friction of his soul as a striking board and knew what she did not, [that] his soul had flown unattached to her own. The old shaman’s soul had its own business to attend to.”

Yes, I forgot this; I have not glanced at the scene for some time. This is lending itself up to a scene on metaphysics it seems to me not dark matter and gravity. I assume the Supervisor is going to talk.

Yes, SheanHe has an ‘understanding’ of how things work but not why. No one knows the why and that is the point. His association is with the ‘reasoning science’ not the metaphysics. SheanHe does not see and cannot see purpose beyond ‘existential being and setting’ just as the other characters. The scene setting is as a multiverse. Break. Post. – Amorella.

Close to twenty-one hundred hours. Supper out earlier at what you call “the rocking chair place”. Prices are the same for lunch and dinner, plus the food is always good, reminds of your grandmas cooking, both of them. Tomorrow you are up to Cleveland and returning Sunday morning after breakfast out. Jadah doesn’t know she is going to be left and you both feel bad, but like Kim says, she’ll be fine, she will just miss the close attention she has at a home with retired, Jadah adoring people in it. The cat will have Ellie however to keep her company during the day.

Will this scene six have a sense of foreboding or any other sixth sense that makes the Supervisor realize he is not alone here?

I’ll throw in a subtle hint or two for the reader, only humans can pick up on these things not supervisors.

That’s strange. It doesn’t seem realistic to me. What do humans have that supervisors don’t?

Strains of humanity that are buried deeper than that monolith on the moon in Clarke’s 2001 Space Odyssey.

There is little we don’t know about our species, Amorella. I don’t want to go out on a limb here and suggest that there is.

Well, that in the metaphysics of the book boy and it will be further played out in this scene also.

I am thinking of the Stage Manager in Wilder’s Our Town.

         Been done, boy.

Who is going to represent the Higher Power?

         The Dead, boy. Who else?

But they lose the rebellion in book five.

They win in book six. Just like in chess, you don’t learn much unless you lose.

I thought the Living are going to win in book six; you know, go off hand in hand.

That is so, but the Dead get their lives back.

I will have to think on this. You keep adding layers of things. I really don’t know I can write all this. I can’t keep up with all the layering.

As long as you write it all down you will keep up. Relax. Errands tomorrow before the trip north. Post. – Amorella.

Notes - In itself / the Universe / sheets / ET&RB / Multiverse

Up before eight, breakfast and the paper. Very cloudy, gloomy morning, but the buds on the honeysuckle and crab apple trees are popping, and yesterday while driving you saw the leaves out on a weeping willow – sure signs of Spring, though it may snow tomorrow.

Unsure, you are, of loop quantum gravity and causal dynamical triangulation.

It’s a mite early for that sort of thing, Amorella. I like to have material sink in, to become a part of it, if you will. And, I feel this need to work on the book, plus I haven’t made a audio draft of chapter six yet.. . . I just really got the joke. Yoda speak. Funny. It takes away the gloomy day and brings a smile. This incident reminds me of my days as a kid with my imaginary friend, Aunt Jemima. She would say things that would put a different perspective or light on the subject at hand and I would smile in the same way. Living was always easier with Aunt Jemima as a friend and now I have you. I guess it is just my way to cope with the universe at large.

You need your sense of humor, orndorff, even if it is gallows humor. Some say gallows humor is mentally unhealthy but from in here it is much healthier than the alternative. And this immediately reminds you of Milton. “The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.” Later today, we can relate this to gravity and dark matter/energy. – Amorella.

The rains begin as you ‘speak’ Amorella. Spake . . . "Thus Spake Zarathustra” by Nietzsche. And, the beginnings of a famous quotation in the Prologue:

The saint laughed at Zarathustra, and spake thus: "Then see to it
that they accept thy treasures! They are distrustful of anchorites,
and do not believe that we come with gifts.

The fall of our footsteps ringeth too hollow through their streets. And just as at night, when they are in bed and hear a man abroad long before sunrise, so they ask themselves concerning us: Where goeth the thief?

Go not to men, but stay in the forest! Go rather to the animals! Why not be like me - a bear amongst bears, a bird amongst birds?"

"And what doeth the saint in the forest?" asked Zarathustra.

The saint answered: "I make hymns and sing them; and in making hymns I laugh and weep and mumble: thus do I praise God.

With singing, weeping, laughing, and mumbling do I praise the God
who is my God. But what dost thou bring us as a gift?"

When Zarathustra had heard these words, he bowed to the saint and said: "What should I have to give thee! Let me rather hurry hence lest I take aught away from thee!" -  And thus they parted from one
another, the old man and Zarathustra, laughing like schoolboys.

When Zarathustra was alone, however, he said to his heart: "Could it be possible! This old saint in the forest hath not yet heard of it,
that God is dead!"

I remember the old joke someone once scribbled on a near university’s dive bathroom wall:

God is dead. – Nietzsche
Nietzsche is dead. – God

In checking your email you found Doug sent you a note and several helps. Here is his note and bits can be gathered from his source helps also. First, the note:

Dick, I read your blog this morning with interest.  Good background information and represents what I think we know so far about dark matter.  You may want to look up WIMP's. I think this stands for a weakly interacting massive particle.

If you will check, you will find that dark matter is also needed to explain the rotation of stars in the galaxies. Unlike a gravitational system the stars far from the center are rotating at the same speed as the stars close in. In a gravitational system the stars far out should be moving slower. Thus the need for missing mass to explain why the stars are all rotating at the same speed. Note if gravity acted like a one over R system the stars would all rotate at the same speed. Some are working on this possibility but are not well accepted by the main stream of scientists. Newton cannot be violated! Also, this "new gravity" does not explain all the observations but I do not what area the theory is deficient in. Look forward to you further work in this area.

In astrophysics, weakly interacting massive particles or WIMPs, are hypothetical particles serving as one possible solution to the dark matter problem. These particles interact through the weak force and gravity, and possibly through other interactions no stronger than the weak force. Because they do not interact with electromagnetism they cannot be seen directly, and because they do not interact with the strong nuclear force they do not react strongly with atomic nuclei.
This combination of properties gives WIMPs many of the properties of neutrinos, save for being far more massive and therefore slower. –

Dick, Here is something to think about. The Big Bang stated as a single point. No volume. Also it stated about 13.75 billion years ago, Given the inflationary period and the speed of light how did it become at least 93 billion light years across in 13.75 billion years?

Answer: According to general relativity, space can expand faster than the speed of light, although we can view only a small portion of the universe due to the limitation imposed by light speed

My question is: what is expanding if space is empty space?

Source:
Current interpretations of astronomical observations indicate that the age of the universe is 13.75 ±0.17 billion years,[4] and that the diameter of the observable universe is at least 93 billion light years or 8.80×1026metres. [5] According to general relativity, space can expand faster than the speed of light, although we can view only a small portion of the universe due to the limitation imposed by light speed. Since we cannot observe space beyond the limitations of light (or any electromagnetic radiation), it is uncertain whether the size of the universe is finite or infinite.

Wow! This is a good question. I assume it is dark matter or dark energy. I am going to have to absorb this first. All this is really interesting. Plus, Doug gave me another source from Wikipedia “Universe”. I have downloaded it to read first. This is really good stuff. What it would be to be a kid now, and have the Internet at your disposal.

Post. After you do your reading I will go over this in sections. – Amorella.

What is so cool is that “the mind” exists in (on, over, through, around) all this. This is most awesome. I mean, it is something everyone “knows” yet surely there is more significance to it than that, at least for a fiction or two.

Mid-afternoon. You and Carol took a break from housework – had an ice tea and cookie and you bought a new cane uptown. Coming home a burst of sky ice. You picked up three of three-fourth’s inch sized ice balls. You have been editing under my direction material from “Universe – Wiki”.

I am excited to see the ancient Greeks in part of the mix and the sense of seven multiple universes. As I read I try to comprehend the concept of the possibility of the mind running through all these universes, not at once, mind you, but through levels like sheets of paper. – The mind picks up the edges of the multiple universes as they are ‘stacked’ but appearing bound as one unit.

         Good. Post. – Amorella.

A break for some reading, then noting Elizabeth Taylor’s passing earlier today you ‘personified’ her character through two films, both with Richard Burton, her husband in real life twice. The Taming of the Shrew (1967) with Burton as Petruchio and Taylor as Katharina is one you used for years as a Shakespearian comedy to counter MacBeth and/or Hamlet. And, for you, the sobering drama, Edward Albee’s, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) with Burton playing George and Taylor playing Martha. Both were brilliantly played by both actors.

That is how I will remember them. And, why I use both as ‘icons’ in The Rebellion? Burton as Salamon and Taylor as Kassandra. Easy to picture each one in character that way. I suppose it is a form of cheating in a way. But it makes the characters more alive and fun for me. Most students enjoyed Taming of the Shrew even though it involved an essay comparing a modern movie comedy, Notting Hill (1999) (comparing and contrasting of comedic elements), a treat the last couple of days of the school year. So, from me, a tip of the old beret to Burton and Taylor, R.I.P.

An alternative interpretation of unvorsum is "everything rotated as one" or "everything rotated by one". In this sense, it may be considered a translation of an earlier Greek word for the universe, περιφορά, "something transported in a circle", originally used to describe a course of a meal, the food being carried around the circle of dinner guests.[8] This Greek word refers to an early Greek model of the universe, in which all matter was contained within rotating spheres centered on the Earth; according to Aristotle, the rotation of the outermost sphere was responsible for the motion and change of everything within. It was natural for the Greeks to assume that the Earth was stationary and that the heavens rotated about the Earth, because careful astronomical and physical measurements (such as the Foucault pendulum) are required to prove otherwise.

Definition as reality
The three elements of the universe (spacetime, matter-energy, and physical law) correspond roughly to the ideas of Aristotle. In his book, The Physics, (from which we derive the word "physics"), Aristotle divided (everything) into three roughly analogous elements: matter (the stuff of which the universe is made), form (the arrangement of that matter in space) and change (how matter is created, destroyed or altered in its properties, and similarly, how form is altered). Physical laws were conceived as the rules governing the properties of matter, form and their changes.

Definition as connected space-time
It is possible to conceive of disconnected space-times, each existing but unable to interact with one another. An easily visualized metaphor is a group of separate soap bubbles, in which observers living on one soap bubble cannot interact with those on other soap bubbles, even in principle. According to one common terminology, each "soap bubble" of space-time is denoted as a universe, whereas our particular space-time is denoted as the universe, just as we call our moon the Moon. The entire collection of these separate space-times is denoted as the multiverse.[15] In principle, the other unconnected universes may have different dimensionalities and topologies of space-time, different forms of matter and energy, and different  physical laws and physical constants, although such possibilities are currently speculative.
Definition as observable reality

According to a still-more-restrictive definition, the universe is everything within our connected space-time that could have a chance to interact with us and vice versa. According to the general theory of relativity, some regions of space may never interact with ours even in the lifetime of the universe, due to the finite speed of light and the ongoing expansion of space. For example, radio messages sent from Earth may never reach some regions of space, even if the universe would live forever; space may expand faster than light can traverse it. It is worth emphasizing that those distant regions of space are taken to exist and be part of reality as much as we are; yet we can never interact with them. The spatial region within which we can affect and be affected is denoted as the observable universe. Strictly speaking, the observable universe depends on the location of the observer. By traveling, an observer can come into contact with a greater region of space-time than an observer who remains still, so that the observable universe for the former is larger than for the latter. Nevertheless, even the most rapid traveler may not be able to interact with all of space. Typically, the observable universe is taken to mean the universe observable from our vantage point in the Milky Way Galaxy.

The universe is believed to be mostly composed of dark energy and dark matter, both of which are poorly understood at present. Less than 5% of the universe is ordinary matter, a relatively small contribution.

**
According to the prevailing Standard Model of physics, all matter is composed of three generations of leptons and quarks, both of which are fermions. These elementary particles interact via at most three fundamental interactions: the electroweak interaction which includes electromagnetism and the weak nuclear force; the strong nuclear force described by quantum chromodynamics; and gravity which is best described at present by general relativity.
**
High-precision test of general relativity by the Cassini space probe: radio signals sent between the Earth and the probe are delayed by the warping of space and time due to the Sun’s mass.
Of the four fundamental interactions, gravitation is dominant at cosmological length scales; that is, the other three forces are believed to play a negligible role in determining structures at the level of planets, stars, galaxies and larger-scale structures. Since all matter and energy gravitate, gravity's effects are cumulative; by contrast, the effects of positive and negative charges tend to cancel one another, making electromagnetism relatively insignificant on cosmological length scales. The remaining two interactions, the weak and strong nuclear force, weak and decline very rapidly with distance; their effects are confined mainly to sub-atomic length scales.

Multiverse theory
Depiction of a multiverse of seven “bubble” universes, which are separate spacetime continua, each having different physical laws, physical constants, and perhaps even different numbers of dimensions or topologies.

Some speculative theories have proposed that this universe is but one of a set of disconnected universes, collectively denoted as the multiverse, altering the concept that the universe encompasses everything.[15][73] By definition, there is no possible way for anything in one universe to affect another; if two "universes" could affect one another, they would be part of a single universe. Thus, although some fictional characters travel between parallel fictional “universes”, this is, strictly speaking, an incorrect usage of the term universe.
The disconnected universes are conceived as being physical, in the sense that each should have its own space and time, its own matter and energy, and its own physical laws — that also challenges the definition of parallelity as these universes don't exist synchronously (since they have their own time) or in a geometrically parallel way (since there's no interpretable relation between spatial positions of the different universes). Such physically disconnected universes should be distinguished from the metaphysical conception of alternate planes of consciousness, which are not thought to be physical places and are connected through the flow of information.
There are two scientific senses in which multiple universes are discussed. First, disconnected spacetime continua may exist; presumably, all forms of matter and energy are confined to one universe and cannot "tunnel" between them. An example of such a theory is the chaotic inflation model of the early universe.[75] Second, according to the many-many-worlds hypothesis, a parallel universe is born with every quantum measurement; the universe "forks" into parallel copies, each one corresponding to a different outcome of the quantum measurement. However, both senses of the term "multiverse" are speculative and may be considered unscientific; no known experimental test in one universe could reveal the existence or properties of another non-interacting universe.

You have been reading and gaining more understanding. So far in these books there is a rationale, order and consistency to the metaphysics and the physics. This is going to be no different. Each will be kept separate which is one of the reasons this following quotation from Wikipedia is so important: “Such physically disconnected universes should be distinguished from the metaphysical conception of alternate planes of consciousness, which are not thought to be physical places and are connected through the flow of information.”

Tomorrow I will explain more and make it more relevant to the upcoming scene in chapter seven. Post. – Amorella.
