Mid-morning. Lunch with Kim at eleven-thirty. You want to buy a Cleveland Plain Dealer today as the election was yesterday. You, Carol and a multitude of other citizens are quite pleased that Issue 2 was put down. Also yesterday you had your lowest blood sugar reading to date, 113, actually within the normal range, but this morning it was 187 before breakfast.
I cheated last night and had a couple of small Halloween candies and a “Jennifer’s cookie” from a local bakery. Who would have thought that would make such a difference. Alas, a false hope I would be able to control my sugar by diet and exercise alone. Will power fades from time to time. I would not make a good soldier though at one time I wanted to make the Air Force a career. So it goes (with a tip of the old black beret to K. Vonnegut).
Kim called and as Paul is tired you are not visiting this morning. Presently you are at Target (again) picking up a few essentials.
Very relaxing sitting in the car with the windows down (cloudy and chillier than yesterday), listening to Sur Route, soft French vocal and jazzy tunes, on XM. Nothing much on mind except wondering why doctors haven’t discovered exactly what is wrong with Paul even though he is recovering.
Lunch at Stone Oven and now to Heinen’s once again, this time for turkey for Alta’s famous Arizona turkey chili/soup for supper. Paul is coming home tomorrow and you are leaving to stop and see Aunt Patsy and Uncle Ernie in the afternoon and for your high school social supper in Uptown Westerville, then home after. One of the doctor’s who has been in the business for over thirty years has only seen one case similar to what Paul has. Another doctor with over fifteen years has never seen Paul’s ‘presentation’ before. Numbers on his liver and kidneys are still up but falling drastically from the highs they were. He is not near the normal range though quite yet. You and Kim are going to visit after supper. Kim has a ‘career presentation’ of her own this afternoon for engineering juniors and seniors at Case-Western.
The rain has set in. Cleveland is looking more familiar for this time of year. I like the dynamics of the city – there is always a lot going on. If I were from Wisconsin or Minnesota I would probably like it better.
Back at Kim and Paul’s on this showery and spitting rain day. Check your Facebook page as you had a few earlier responses to your last night comment on Ohio Issue 2. One of your former students called unions elitist and you were going to ask if Woody Guthrie were an elitist. Let’s see what happens. – Amorella.
Well, you got riled. Drop your comment in here for your own satisfaction. – Amorella.
I don’t think I should, Amorella. I spout off too much. There is too much noise in the world.
Are you an elitist? Do you think you don’t have a right to your voice as others have for themselves? – Amorella.

Businesses are tied to a bottom line by definition. Many that deal with humanity, such as insurance companies and medicine and education should be non-profit. And, on the earlier comment on unions being elitist, I wonder what Woody Guthrie would say to that. Government has a social contract with the people, this is what they do. People don't want to pay more taxes but they want their roads and their utilities and their food to be safe. How come when times are good are the firemen, police, teachers and social service and health people not paid the better salaries the others are receiving? We have our higher degrees just as other professionals. When did a teacher ever receive a bonus? Our vacations were never paid vacations. Never seems to work that way. People like to compare apples with oranges. I pay my taxes and I would pay more to help bring the debt down. I never voted down schools, health and social welfare issues. I also agree with Ginny that the politicians are government employees. We who worked for the government did not and most do not work solely for the money otherwise we would be in business. Business and government services are not so easily comparable when one looks at the objectives and goals of each. People made their choices as to what they wanted to do in life. People find it easy to bitch no matter what, and it looks from here like I am no exception.

That’s better. Post. – Amorella.
I don’t know what to title all this.
