Mid-morning. A light dry snow is falling – a
dusting. Carol is working on a second load of washing; she also awoke before
you and brought in the paper as you were walking downstairs.
Evening.
You both spent the afternoon inside with the aroma of chili cooking on the
stove. You watched last night’s Masterpiece Classic and Mystery as well as one
“CSI” and the news. Jared and his son cleaned your driveway at dusk. You were
just looking at Pouch Eight and realize you need to have a good reason for Ship
to land the Earthlings at Stonehouse, something plausible but serendipitous at
the same time. Later. – Amorella
2012 hours. What comes to mind is Ship
and Onesixanzero and Drenakite the Cleric have a part in it.
How about Drenakite setting it up to appear
serendipitous? – Amorella
2016 hours. What would be her
intention?
To have everyone near her control. This plan
is for the best of intentions for the health security of ThreePlanets. She is
concerned first about a plague, one that could come from digging up the remains
of Elderfelder the Dancer. She is not concerned about Godofamily’s wrath
because she has no reason. Days of fearing Godofamily have long passed. Her
concern is science and the exploration of the otherwise unknown secret channels
within dark matter (the working beacon left between Earth and ThreePlanets),
those aspects Yermey is working on with Ship and Onesixanzero. She wonders that
a part of this secret travel channel is connected to Stonehouse in some way not
understood by physics. Nothing supernatural mind you, a kind of warping – even
the thought that there is an invisible ‘line of communication’ between Earth
and ThreePlanets – a quantum connection, of sorts; a entanglement of higher
consciousness that would allow such a scientific rather than metaphysical
connection between the souls of the marsupial humanoids and the homo sapiens –
a preternatural connection, at least from Drenakite’s perspective. - Amorella

The preternatural
The preternatural
or praeternatural is that which appears outside or beside (Latin praeter) the natural. In contrast to the
supernatural, preternatural phenomena are presumed to have explanations that
are unknown. It is "suspended between the mundane and the
miraculous".
In theology, the term is often
used to distinguish marvels or deceptive trickery, often attributed to
witchcraft or demons, from the purely divine power of the genuinely supernatural
to violate the laws of nature. In the early modern period the term was used by
scientists to refer to abnormalities and strange phenomena of various kinds
that seemed to depart from the norms of nature.

With the
emergence of early modern science, the concept of the preternatural
increasingly came to be used to refer to strange or abnormal phenomena that
seemed to violate the normal working of nature, but which were not associated
with magic and witchcraft. This was a development of the idea that
preternatural phenomena were fake miracles. As Daston puts it, "To
simplify the historical sequence somewhat: first, preternatural phenomena were
demonized and thereby incidentally naturalized; then the demons were deleted,
leaving only the natural causes." The use of the term was especially common in medicine, for
example in John Brown's A Compleat Treatise of Preternatural Tumours
(1678), or William Smellie’s A Collection of Preternatural Cases and
Observations in Midwifery (1754).
In the
19th century the term was appropriated in anthropology to refer to folk beliefs
about fairies, trolls and other such creatures which were not thought of as
demonic, but which were perceived to affect the natural world in unpredictable
ways. According to Thorstein Veblen, such preternatural agents were often
thought of as forces somewhere between supernatural beings and material
processes. "The preternatural agency is not necessarily conceived to be a
personal agent in the full sense, but it is an agency which partakes of the
attributes of personality to the extent of somewhat arbitrarily influencing the
outcome of any enterprise, and especially of any contest."
The linguistic association
between individual agents and unexplained or unfortunate circumstances remains.
Many people attribute occurrences that are known to be material processes, such
as "gremlins in the engine", a "ghost in the machine", or
attributing motives to objects: "the clouds are threatening". The
anthropomorphism in our daily life is a combination of the above cultural
stems, as well as the manifestation of our pattern-projecting minds.

2040 hours. I like this Amorella. I
had no idea what to do.
You set up the character to be in
motion. Relax. Think on this. I like the possibilities. – Amorella
2041 hours. I would have never seen
these connections back to the beacon and Yermey no less. Ship and Onesixanzero
were already on the project but it is for a cleaner, safer, more efficient way
to move from point A to point B. I can see a holy figure such as the Cleric
looking at this ‘roadway’ from the soul’s ‘roadway so to speak but in the realm
of science not metaphysics. Drenakite is more beholden to science and keeping Godofamily
a safe respectful distance away. I really like this concept. It fits right in my head.
Thank you, Amorella.
