Notes - G.S. Hammond /

Mid-morning. You and Carol have had breakfast and read (or are reading) the Sunday paper. The television talk is on the events in Paris and you are tired of listening to such people. – Amorella

0955 hours. Once one has the facts (as much factual information as possible in the moment) then one can make up herorhis mind about the event, which may then change when facts are further clarified.

You spent much of the afternoon working in the yard, raking leaves, etc. You had a late lunch at Smashburgers mid-afternoon then ran some errands. Yesterday, when Kim was here she and Carol found a large framed document about her Grandfather Hammond. Carol cleaned it up and you will be taking it up to Kim and Paul's at Thanksgiving. She (Kim) wants you to look for the official White House photographs of her grandfather – one with President Johnson and the other with President Nixon also. You and Carol have never put any of his awards or photographs up – the only family ones are of the boys. Here is the award statement. – Amorella

This is interesting because these dates do not take in his specific work from 1959 through 1964 in both Korea and South Vietnam.

Why didn’t you just take a photograph, boy? – Amorella

1823 hours. I didn’t think about it. Somehow it doesn’t seem ethical because it is an official State Department document. I guess I feel the same way about the White House presidential photographs, though they are copies. I don’t know who has the originals. Mom and Dad sent a copy to each daughter once they retired and moved to Florida.

         Post. – Amorella

1830 hours. We are all proud of Carol’s father, Dr. G. S. Hammond. Earlier, he had a distinguished career in Ohio public education also.
