Notes - Touché./ machinery

Mid-morning. Saturday brings a clear blue sunny sky but with temperatures in the upper thirties to start. Jadah got you up before eight. The paper has been read and breakfast eaten. Carol is on the phone with her sister Linda. Not a bad beginning to your weekend. – Amorella

0915 hours. I am surprised with Yermey telling Pyl about his taking the pill. She obviously does not know about his very famous story.

Friendly will fill her in during Pouch Ten. – Amorella

0918 hours. This is taking the focus off Merlyn’s future-like dream story as a whole.

It is his dream not yours, boy. – Amorella

0920 hours. I don’t want this to turn into some mushy four segments of love stories.

Too close to the truth, huh? – Amorella

0922 hours. Love makes people vulnerable. Let’s keep it philosophical and otherwise thought provoking.

Is that what you think this is? – Amorella

         Touché.

         Post. - Amorella

You had a late lunch at Piada Street Italian and have been running errands; presently you are at Kroger’s on Mason-Montgomery, after this, more errands. – Amorella

1527 hours. When I write these seemingly non-consequential observations down about ordinary life I take more conscious notice, perhaps this is a good thing. Individual people, individual cars, grocery workers, the variety of dressings people make themselves up in when in public. It’s interesting. The day never warmed up, still in the fifties, but the afternoon sun is bright and no clouds  -- looks like a beautiful California sky right here in southwest Ohio. Nice. Time to work on Dead 9. I’m not sure what I have. – I have nothing.

Drop in the last paragraph of Dead Eight. – Amorella

I think of the heartansoulanmind as two dimensional, as I am in fact, a triangle – with three sides equal and equiangular at sixty degrees. A human spirit in the abstract is the same and two human spirits, one at rest on another are six-sided not three. This is my nature of the view, recognizing the points would be inverted into a single point and with one point resting on another cannot be view as a double – each gives unto the other the illusion of one; thus, there are seven points in a couple, in friends or lovers. But in the marsupial humanoid demonstration, the triangle of heartansoulanmind is unequal – the soul is immortal; the heart is alone root and stem; and the mind is heart’s reason and memory, an ever-unique flowering.

1735 hours. We are home from our errands and an ice cream at Graeter’s; Carol also picked up some jellybeans and chocolate eggs. Carol is pulling leaves away from her upcoming spring wildflowers. In the distance a tinge of green appears to lie on branches like frost. I opened the front windows for a few minutes, both cats are sitting at the north window sniffing and making other responsible feline investigations. We love our two cats; characters both. I no longer see the intended image when Merlyn says, “there are seven points in a couple, in friends or lovers.” I understand the inequality of each, the soul, the heart and the mind even though they are one unit. I assume the soul is never more than one/third but the other two have mixed percentages.

You mean the soul can never have less than one/third not more. – Amorella

         Yes. Amazing. Sorry.

That is the way it will work in here. It is no wonder that humanity singularly and/or collectively can be confused. This is part of what Yermey is talking about with Pyl – the Balance. Balancing one’s inner self is not so easy as physically standing and balancing on a teeter-totter. Yet, without the inner balance it is not so easy to sail through calm or stormy seas. – Amorella

1816 hours. This is nothing knew. In general I think the Eastern philosophies and religions deal with this more than the major Western philosophies and religions.

On ThreePlanets the settlement of such philosophies in on the good will of individuals to other individuals was well as collectively within smaller and larger community/cultures on the planets. The training of self-discipline is for the promotion of peace and welfare within one’s self and among neighbors not warfare. – Amorella

1823 hours. Not here though. Self-defense is the way all creatures survive on Earth – individually and collectively – this is first.

That is what machinery is for – the safety of the individual and the collective society. Later, dude. - Amorella

Notes - still fun / Pouch 9 draft enclosed

Late afternoon. You had a late lunch at Smashburgers and Carol picked up cards at Hallmark. Rain has been on and off most of the day. You did forty-five minutes of exercises again earlier today. Carol feels more comfortable getting in and out of the Avalon thus you have not been driving the Accord as usual. Quora sent something of interest to you this morning as your mind is still on the mystery of how consciousness can be in two places at once both physically and spiritually as the Near-Death article in Wednesday blog suggests. You still find it odd to agree that a ‘spiritual like’ consciousness appears to be more real than everyday reality. – Amorella

1630 hours. I am back to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave concept. The physical universe (including our bodies/brain) is full of movement on both a quantum and physical level, at least above the temperature of Absolute Zero. Spiritual reality appears to exist without any movement yet spiritual movement is allowed, the human spirit can be willed to move by the force of human consciousness at least in the Near Death article. Is thought itself the standard in both the physical and spiritual worlds?  ‘Being’ is in both the spiritual and the physical. I am, in this case, a Platonic existentialist. ‘Being’ is not the same as living. Earlier today I captured this on Quora.

From Quora:

I'm also interested in any information you have about the views of other people who were influential in the development of QM, e.g. Max Planck, Paul Dirac, John Stewart Bell. Not Einstein, because his views are well-known.
Greg Sunderland, Quantum physicist

Werner Heisenberg: "The discontinuous change in the wave function takes place with the act of registration of the result by the mind of the observer. It is this discontinuous change of our knowledge in the instant of registration that has its image in the discontinuous change of the probability function."

Von Neumann: "consciousness, whatever it is, appears to be the only thing in physics that can ultimately cause this collapse or observation."

Max Planck: "I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness."

Erwin Schrodinger: "The only possible inference ... is, I think, that I –I in the widest meaning of the word, that is to say, every conscious mind that has ever said or felt 'I' -am the person, if any, controls the 'motion of the atoms'. ...The personal self equals the omnipresent, all-comprehending eternal self... There is only one thing, and even in that what seems to be a plurality is merely a series of different personality aspects of this one thing, produced by a deception."

Freeman Dyson: "At the level of single atoms and electrons, the mind of an observer is involved in the description of events. Our consciousness forces the molecular complexes to make choices between one quantum state and another."

Eugene Wigner: "It is not possible to formulate the laws of quantum mechanics in a consistent way without reference to the consciousness."

Pascual Jordon: "Observations not only disturb what is to be measured, they produce it."

Niels Bohr: "Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real. A physicist is just an atom's way of looking at itself."

Wolfgang Pauli: "We do not assume any longer the detached observer, but one who by his indeterminable effects creates a new situation, a new state of the observed system."

Niels Bohr: "Any observation of atomic phenomena will involve an interaction with the agency of observation not to be neglected. Accordingly, an independent reality in the ordinary physical sense can neither be ascribed to the phenomena nor to the agencies of observation. After all, the concept of observation is in so far arbitrary as it depends upon which objects are included in the system to be observed."

John Stewart Bell: "As regards mind, I am fully convinced that it has a central place in the ultimate nature of reality."

Martin Rees: "The universe could only come into existence if someone observed it. It does not matter that the observers turned up several billion years later. The universe exists because we are aware of it."

You appear to be suggesting that the spiritual and physical planes are equal in that ‘Being/Consciousness’ exists in both. Is this what you think? – Amorella

1645 hours. No. The spiritual is first, the spiritual is as the chicken, and the physical is the egg.

You have returned to an internal argument from when you joined the Presbyterian Church when you were twelve. What was the existence into which the chicken came? – Amorella

1648 hours. That was sixty years ago, a lifetime, and I am perplexed as to how this can have been and is. Why don’t people try to exam this from something other than philosophy? From the article’s perspective it is possible for both the spiritual and physical to exist in the same plane – the plane of human consciousness at least. From the perspective of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave there need not be an entrance to the cave, the ‘light’ already exists in the physical darkness, within the human being. The human essence is a form of ‘light’. Being is a form of ‘light’.

The above shows examples of heartansoulanmind, don’t you agree? – Amorella

1657 hours. It shows examples of induced thought. Consciousness, self-awareness, is only one aspect of being human. I don’t agree or disagree. I feel I would have a better idea where these Merlyn books might go if I had something basic down pat. The irony here is that even if I were dead I might not know any more, and perhaps less; certainly less than if I had not been born into physical existence.

Break time, orndorff. Post. – Amorella

1703 hours. All these sixty years of life experiences and it is still fun and challenging to think on this subject.

         2309 hours. I completed Pouch 9.

Diplomatic Pouch 9 @ rho, draft Bk.2

While half dressed and sitting on the edge of their king sized bed Pyl thinks on Justin and how he is faring. I hope he and Blakey are enjoying his venture to the dig with Friendly. Both are so slow adapting, but then I am not much better. Here we are on a planet much like our own – a place with similar terrains – hills and valleys and mountains but with many more rivers and streams, fresh water lakes and larger and numerous saltwater lakes and seas. A chime that reminds her of a soft Macy’s made-a-sale-bell interrupts. “Come in,” she says in a normal voice.
         “Yermey, here.”

Pyl is up and out the bedroom door. “Good morning.”

“And, good morning to you. Thought I would stop by and see what you are up to.”

I was enjoying the peace and quiet, she thought. “Nothing. I am in my robe because I haven’t decided what to wear.”

         “That’s a consideration. Mind if I sit?”

“No, of course. Would you like a cup of our hot coffee?”

He chuckled, “Real coffee, no thanks. You ought to be rationing that.”

Pyl sat in the chair across. “We keep our furniture out rather than in the ceiling, walls or floors – I hope the sight is not too much clutter.”

“You humans are a charming species,’ commented Yermey with that wickedly lovable grin of his. A waspish thought popped into his head, ‘packrats’. He rubbed at his naked chin.

Pyl mirrored his grin, “Cat got your tongue?”

He put his hand comfortably down on his lap. “No. You know, I don’t really understand that phrase, cat got your tongue’.”

“Good question. You were being silent, that is, your tongue wasn’t moving, so I asked it the cat snatched it,” invented Pyl.

With a spark of glee in his eyes, Yermey deadpanned, “What cat?” Pyl thinks. Yermey clips, “Cat got your tongue, Pyl?”

They both laugh in the awkwardness of the moment.

Yermey says, “I have an old cultural story I would like to tell you.”

“I want to hear a story about your culture today,” replies Pyl. “One that reflects on your own personal values.”

“I can do that. This is one of my favorites from childhood.” Their eyes meet in the moment.
She politely interrupts, “We are friends, Yermey. I like this.”

“Good. We are friends.” He immediately stands rather formally to shake her hand.

Embarrassed, she stands and gives him an innocent peck on the cheek as if she were young and giving a surprise kiss to her Grandfather Taylor who, in the moment, she remembers with great affection.

They sit back in their chairs and warmly relax in each other’s company.

Yermey begins. “We are on a Raft continually rocked back and forth in a very gentle manner, this is what the children imagine as they sit rocking back and forth in a group. The teacher then says, ‘the Raft you sit or stand on demands to be Balanced."

He smiles, “Imagine you are a child standing and balancing yourself on a teeter-totter in the school yard.”

She shakes her head. “I have done that with great glee when a child.” She wanted to add, ‘I conquered my fear,’ but did not.

“We were told we were balancing Salt and Pepper, the main spices in life. Later, when we were older, we were told that too much spice was not good and too little was not good either. We had to learn to balance ourselves every day of our lives. If we did not, we would fall.”

“Fall from Grace?” questioned Pyl unthinkingly.

“Ultimately,” replies Yermey calmly, “but that comes when we are older in adolescents when we can better appreciate how to lead our individual lives in relationship with others who have learned to survive Grace.”

“Survive Grace? I don’t understand.”

When we are sixteen we are considered personally responsible for ourselves and we are each given two identical pills. One will kill you quickly and the other will make you terribly and painfully ill.”

“How awful.”

“The responsibility is real.”

“I don’t understand.”

“We each know our friends and adults have two pills. We quickly learn to help protect each other from ourselves by being sincere and honest with one another.”

“This is so strange to consider. Why give a child of sixteen the ability to kill her or himself?

“So she or he will have reason to mature in a more balanced personal life.”

Pyl is surprised by Yermey’s open sincerity. He has the pills she thinks. “May I see these pills?”

“Of course.” He pulls out a small tube and slides the tube open. “See. Two pills, side by side.”

He gives her eyes a close inspection. “I took one once.”

Notes - more real

Mid-morning. You had an old fashioned Spring thunderstorm within the hour and found it quite refreshing to listen to. – Amorella

0908 hours. I always like the drama of thunderstorms. In the very early fifties I remember putting myself about five miles from the front somewhere in Germany listening to the roars and booms of artillery on the front lines, i.e. Battle of the Bulge as a thunderstorm roared through. As a ten year old I was into such things as well as Greek mythology so Zeus and his thunderbolt also played a part. Besides, you could still go to Army surplus stores and buy stuff to heighten the realism of a child’s imagination. I remember Mom was never to keen on me playing war (which we boys did) but it never bothered Dad. Of course he used war surplus stuff for hunting, fishing and camping which I was never really too keen on myself. Today I just listen to the music of the thunder, pellets of ice hitting the windows and deck and the following rain.

You completed your exercises, forty-five minutes worth. You enjoy counting each or every other stroke. Counting backwards or forwards is a comforting activity, always has been . . . like counting pennies from the wall and putting them in a jar when you were four and five. – Amorella

I can remember doing this; it was the east wall of the apartment near the front door. I would imagine the pennies and pick them off the wall and drop them into an imaginary jar in front of me; mostly I would do this sitting down, but not always. Mother mostly ignored it but Father found it unsettling to say the least. Only once did I start to take the jar uptown to buy a milk shake at Dew’s Drug Store. I remember crossing West Park to go up Knox and Mother called out asking where I was going. I think I said, “Nowhere,” and turned around. It was sort of a joke on myself I guess. I don’t really remember other than being secretly somewhat embarrassed by the whole incident. Father thought I was crazy. I was also embarrassed that he thought that. I was quite orderly and proper in those days, or at least I tried to be. It was a duty to be orderly and proper because it was a small town and most everyone knew everyone else. (1142)

That’s a new slant on an old situation. – Amorella

1142 hours. I am probably making up a story but most of it seems pretty close to the truth in this easy and soft recollectional setting. The warmth is in the counting, that’s why I like to do my exercises.

Carol is readying to Blue Ash for her teacher luncheon. She cannot drive because of her right leg so you offered to drive her and Anne in the Avalon (which Carol hardly ever drives) and they can sit in the backseat and enjoy the ride and not have to worry about parking. Surprisingly Carol agrees and you get to be chauffer. – Amorella

You are at McD’s on Montgomery Road across from the Kenwood Towne Centre while the women are eating at Slatt’s on Cooper Road. You have spent most of the time on BBC and filling out a BBC survey. – Amorella

1346 hours. This place is has too many distractions to think and consider. Time to leave and head for a parking lot near Slatt’s. Carol said to be ready for her call between 1415 and 1430 hours. Time to go.

You had a bowl mix of ground steak, rice, spaghetti sauce, corn, black beans and pieces of green pepper for supper. Happily, leftovers are available. You watched NBC News, “Broadchurch”, “Mysteries of Laura” and “Bones”.

2200 hours. Yesterday I stated that the more real consciousness was about an inch in diameter, but that is misleading. It reminds me of the size of a pebble when felt in a shoe. First, this would be at most two-dimensional not three and maybe only one dimension or less, or not a dimension at all. In the first books I have a ghost who is the size of a pea and an alien consciousness that appears not to be there when you are attempting to observe it, a consciousness that is less than half the size of a hydrogen atom (or something to that effect). Perhaps it is a non-substance that ‘acts’ as a consciousness but is not. I am not entirely satisfied that this one inch sized bubble in my head is the heartansoulanmind, that is, a spiritual consciousness. A human being ‘feels’ sheorhe might have a heart and mind because they appear measurable by emotional and reasonable intensity, but the soul may only be an illusion of depth. Now, for the books and blog I am okay with this because one cannot come up with an acceptable scientific definition of all three. A spiritual consciousness relates more with behavior than anything else. It has to do with how one behaves alone, with others, and in relationship to herorhis environment, at least in my mind. I don’t think of it as like gears in an old fashion clock. Yet, in here it has three ‘moveable’ parts. Okay, I’m done. (2221)

You think that one of the two consciousnesses in your head is more real than the other. – Amorella

2223 hours. Yes. One is not fully of this world/universe, that is the more real.

Notes - vital signs / a matter of acceptance

Mid-afternoon. You had a very late lunch at Penn Station and now Carol is walking slowly south of the center road of Rose Hill Cemetery. By chance, the other day you received an email from The International Association for Near Death Studies, Inc. via a fellow Greater Cincinnati citizen I’ll name Ed. You do not know one another and he was surprised you received the email from the Vital Signs Newsletter, Fall, 2014. What intrigued you in the article: “My Near-Death Experience: A Telephone Call from God,” by Tony Cicoria, MD, and Jordan Cicoria were the details about how the experience first felt after the phone he was holding was struck by lightning. Here is this segment of the article. - Amorella

** **

My Out-of-Body and Near Death Experience: The force of the lightning blast threw my body backwards like a rag doll. Despite the stunning physical trauma, I realized something strange and inexplicable was happening. As my body was blown backwards, I felt ‘me’ move forward, instead. Yet I seemed also to stand motionless and bewildered, staring at the phone dangling in front of me. Nothing made sense.

At that moment, I heard my mother-in-law scream from the top of the stairs above me. She raced down towards me. I felt like a deer in the headlights. As she approached I could see she was looking beyond me to my right, and she headed in that direction. She was oblivious to me standing there. I turned to see where she was going. Suddenly I realized what was going on. A motionless body was lying on the ground some ten feet behind me. To appearances the person was dead. From inspection, the person resembled me. To my astonishment, another look confirmed it was me!

I watched as a woman who had been waiting to use the phone dropped to her knees and began CPR. I spoke to the people around my body but they could not see or hear me; I could see and hear everything they did and said. It suddenly occurred to me that I was thinking normal thoughts, in the same mental vernacular I had always possessed. At that moment I suddenly had one simple, ineloquent and rude thought – ‘Holy shit, I’m dead.’

This cosmic realization of consciousness meant that my self-awareness was no longer in the lifeless body on the ground. I, whatever I was now, was capable of thought and reason. Interestingly, there was no strong emotion accompanying my apparent death. I was shocked, certainly, but otherwise I felt no reaction to what should have been the most emotional of life’s events.

I saw no point in staying with my body, so my thoughts then moved to walk away. I turned and started to climb the stairs to where I knew my family still was. As I started to climb I looked down at the stairs like I would normally do. I saw that as I reached the third stair, my legs began to dissolve. I remember being disconcerted, by the time I reached the top of the stairs, that I had lost all form entirely and instead was just a ball of energy and thought. My mind was racing frantically, trying to record and make sense of what was happening.

At the top of the first flight, the stairs went up and left into the second flight. Instead of bothering with the stairs, I passed through the wall to the room where everyone was. I went diagonally through the room, over my wife, who was painting children’s faces. She had one child in front of her, one behind that person, and one to the left. I had a clear realization that my family would be fine. Dispassionately, I departed the building.

Once outside, I was immersed in a bluish white light that had a shimmering appearance, as if I were swimming underwater in a crystal clear stream. The sunlight was penetrating through it. The visual was accompanied by a feeling of absolute love and peace.

What does the term ‘absolute love and peace’ mean? For example, scientists use the term absolute zero to describe a temperature at which no molecular motion exists – a singular and pure state. That was what I felt; I had fallen into a pure positive flow of energy. I could see the flow of this energy. I could see it flow through the fabric of everything. I reasoned that this energy was quantifiable. It was something measurable and palpable. As I flowed in the current of the stream, which seemed to have both velocity and direction, I saw some of the high points and low points in my life pass by, but nothing in depth. I became ecstatic on the possibility of where I was going. I was aware of every moment of this experience, conscious of every millisecond, even though I could feel that time did not exist. I remember thinking, ‘This is the greatest thing that can ever happen to anyone.’

Suddenly, I was back in my body. It was so painful! My mouth burned and my left foot felt like someone had stuck a red-hot poker through my ankle. I was still unconscious, but I could feel the woman who was doing CPR stop and kneel beside me. It seemed like minutes before I could open my eyes. I wanted to say to her, ‘Thank you for helping me.’ Nonsensically, all that came out was ‘It’s okay, I’m a doctor.’

Shortly after I regained consciousness, camp security arrived and requested that an ambulance be called, which, to their frustration, I promptly refused. Although I realized I probably made little sense, the truth about lightning strikes is that you are either dead or alive, and there is not much in-between. In retrospect it is obvious I wasn’t thinking clearly, but at the time, I was still reeling from what I had just experienced. My family drove me the two and a half hours home to Oneonta, New York, wobbly and confused. Once there, I saw my local cardiologist and neurologist, who did all the appropriate tests and examinations. They told me I was lucky to be alive.

I was able to resume work two weeks after the initial lightning strike, when my brain seemed to function normally again. In the weeks and months after this lightning strike, however, I changed in many ways. They story of my developing musical and composition abilities as a result of this event has been touched on in several books and documentaries.

Can science explain the NDE/OBE? I had experienced what Raymond Moody, MD, defined as an out-of-body experience (OBE). I will refer to this phenomenon as an ND-OBE (near-death, out-of-body) experience. For the purpose of this article, I am going to focus primarily on the experimental aspect of ND-OBEs and attempt to apply scientific reasoning to what may defy explanation with our current knowledge.

As a physician and scientist, I think it is extremely important to examine what I experienced that fateful day. As an individual, however, I also think it is extremely important to appreciate the indescribable miracle that I experienced. I was presumed dead on the ground, yet I was later able to see and verify things that had been happening around me and that happened in another room, where it was physically impossible for me to have been. Both are imperative variables in arriving at a viable conclusion to this enigmatic event.

My friend and colleague, the eminent neurologist and renowned author Oliver Sacks, MD, assures me that I was hallucinating – but was I? Dr. Sacks has described hallucinations associated with ‘ecstatic’ seizures in temporal lobe epilepsy that certainly sound like some descriptions by people who have had actual NDEs. However, numerous reports have been presented and verified where experiences of NDE/OBEs have been able to describe in incredible visual and auditory detail in their NDE/OBEs. A case in point is that of Pam Reynolds, described in Dr. Michael Sabom’s book, ‘Light and Death,’ and further studied by Holden and Woelee. Reyolds was a patient who had a NDE/OBE during a neurosurgical procedure called ‘standstill’ pioneered by Robert Spetzler, MD at the Barrows Neurosurgical Institute. The procedure was used during a brain aneurysm resection where the patient had an induced cardiac arrest, and the brain was monitored and was documented to be isoelectric and non-reactive. Just before the ‘standstill’ procedure was begun, Pam was deeply anesthetized, with her eyes taped shut and sheet over her head. Her brain activity was monitored in more than one way to confirm that her anesthesia was complete, and yet she described ‘popping’ out of her body – having an ND/OBE, whereupon she was able to describe sounds, ‘see’ where people were standing, and describe the shape of surgical instruments used on her that she could not have seen physically. Dr. Gerald Woerlee claims she may have had moments of light anesthesia, which certainly can happen in surgery, but the would allow only auditory, not visual recognition. She was able to mimic the sound of a brutish instrument called a Midas Rex that was used to cut through her skull. More importantly she was able to accurately describe what it looked like in lay terms.

An extensive number of cardiac arrest cases have been recorded with similar experience to the Reynolds’ case. Pim van Lommel, MD, a cardiologist in the Netherlands, did a prospective analysis of 509 successful resuscitations in 344 Dutch patients who suffered a cardiac arrest. Of those, 18 % had an NDE/OBE. Morse found 85 % in children. An obvious question is, why not all? Ring found that blind people who had experienced ND/OBEs also reported veridical perceptions that were impossible from the vantage point of the physical body, and which sometimes totally contradicted their expectations at the time, yet were later verified to be accurate. . . .

What Do I Conclude? In my case, being both a physician and scientist, I have approached what I experienced with some trepidation. What is clear to me is that my consciousness survived death, and I was able to verify details of my near-death and out-of-body experience that I would have no conceivable way of knowing except through conscious travel of my spiritual self outside of my body. As Robin Kelly, MD, states, ‘Our brain may not be the seat of consciousness, but merely a vessel through which consciousness is realized.’ I can only hope that through further experimentation and study that meaningful data will be found to corroborate what many of us near-death experiencers already know – that the gift of life is greater than the sum of its parts, and that whatever consciousness is, it survives death.

1801 hours. This took some typing time but I am glad it is included in my notes.

Ed sent you other similar materials from Vital Signs Newsletter and you have found more online yourself. As you were typing you realized that the sense and style of the article is quite similar to how you would have written such an article. You were not struck by lightning however, but you have had a few out-of-body experiences that you are incline to accept as hallucinations (seizures within the temporal lobe) suggested Dr. Sacks within the article.

1808 hours. What I also find interesting is that the perspective of the Dead in my fiction is not much different than that presented by Tony Cicoria, MD, who presumed he had been dead in the article.

From - Blog Posting -- 11 March 2009

. . . I am consciously working on this editing; and even though I am reluctant to cut out some passages along the way (particularly those related to close friends) I am doing it for the focus of the book, which is primarily (as I see it) a dialogue between myself and Amorella, who is mostly another part of myself.

I still think this separation has to do with the original hypnosis session where I had an epiphany. Where I realized the brain is more powerful than I thought, and I realized I had two centers, one that was hypnotizable and the other that recognized at the same time that I was under hypnosis. Thus, logically, I see that I am in one part and Amorella is in the other. I am the consciousness that realizes I was under hypnosis, the approximate one inch in diameter ball of consciousness directly above where my spinal column attaches to the brain and about an inch or two below the top of my skull, and perhaps an inch or two in from the center back of my skull. This is an assumption based on my own observations and feedback from Dr. Payne, the hypnotist.

I have unconsciously found a way to use this information to aid my ability to write ‘automatically’ in much the way I ‘automatically’ read and evaluated students’ papers for much of my career.. . .

2208 hours. To write with automaticity is like it is when Amorella does the writing, at least that is how I see it. After reading the article from Vital Stats I wonder if this, the consciousness seemingly within the one-inch ball in my brain is the part that is ‘me’. Is it the part that appears to survive in a NDE?

You sense this is so, that this consciousness allows you to gain a ‘sense’ of how it is being dead because when you first experienced this in Dr. Payne’s office this consciousness appeared to be more real-in-the-moment than your real life consciousness which was busy readying to be hypnotized (if it were possible). At the time you did not think it was possible to be hypnotized. Shortly you discovered this was not the case. – Amorella

2217 hours. Dr. Payne continued talking and said my right arm was holding a cement block (like used in house construction). I immediately felt the weight. I could not believe how much a cement block weighs just holding it with one hand. This was a complete surprise. Somewhere inside I knew better, or thought I did, but that thought got lost when my arm began quivering from holding up such a weight. I was sure I was going to drop that cement block. When Dr. Payne brought me out of the trance I was in shock to realize the brain is so powerful. I never dreamed it could be so powerful that I was convinced that cement block had been real. I could feel the cement block. It was quite difficult to hold onto even with my hand clutching hard to the piece of rough, solid piece of cement. Yet, at the same time I was in a timeless and calm place not really a part of the goings on in Dr. Payne’s office. I have not looked at this experience in terms of an out-of-body experience because it was an inside-my-head and separate from the brain/body at the same time. (2226)

From time to time in this blog you have wondered how it is that I-the-Amorella work. I have access to your memory-experiences as well as set in place memories, many of which are built on stilts of partial doubt because you realize you do not have a good memory to begin with. Reason and imagination fill in the blanks. You would rather reason rule as far as filling in the blanks is concerned. Imagination only heightens doubt; reason lowers the sense of doubt. Did the hypnosis trigger a doorway to a ‘naked’ consciousness? You think it possible. For simplicities sake I call this ping-pong sized ball envisioned that day your naked consciousness, your heartansoulanmind. From that the story springs, a story from what may have been before and be after physical existence. I am speaking of an understanding here, not a Truth. In here, in this context, an understanding can be the shadow of a Platonic-like Truth in context with our fictional works about Merlyn’s dreams. – Amorella

2246 hours. I can accept this because it is full of my own sense of reasoning. It is not a matter of faith or doubt; it is a matter of acceptance of reasoning as far as this blog and the story exists. – rho
