Notes - quantifying spiritual energy? /

Mid-morning. You are at Honda Motorcars on Mayfield waiting for Kim's car to have tire rotation and an oil/filter change. Kim called and you also have an errand to run to Home Depot on Severance (off Taylor) before returning. You would like to work on Dead-8, let's see what we have.

I didn't even have it in a document. Took me a second or so to realize it was done in the notes.

You did not panic but what went through your mind deserves an explanation. Your thoughts are in the brackets.

[I did do this. I think. I lost it. I did something. I don't remember doing this document. . . . I did do something. Notes. It is in the notes.]

It is tiring just to see this in print.

That is because of deeper energy used. - Amorella

Surely deeper energy is not 'spiritual' energy. I don't even know what spiritual energy is. I don't even know where the concept comes from. I just made it up [in this context] in the moment. Is this a concept I can use? If so, how do I explain it so it sounds reasonable in a fiction? First, I have info from Wikipedia Offline as I need a place to begin.

Place what you have then I will edit to the essentials for you to work with. - Amorella

Energy (esotericism)

The term energy has been widely used by writers and practitioners of various esoteric forms of spirituality and alternative medicine to refer to a variety of phenomena. Such "energy" is often seen as a continuum that unites body and mind. The term "energy" also has a scientific context, and the scientific foundations of "physical energy" are often confused or misused to justify a connection to a scientific basis for physical manifestations, properties, delectability or sensing of "psychic energy" and other physic phenomenon where no presently known scientific basis exists.

History and metaphysics

Various distinct cultural and religious traditions postulate the existence of esoteric energies, usually as a type of élan vital - an essence, which differentiates living from non-living objects.

A number of New Age spiritual practices and alternative medicine modalities rely upon such ideas, without the more spiritual or mystical elements of traditional beliefs. Instead, they focus on the perception and manipulation of subtle experiences in the body, usually in the belief that conscious attention to the body's state will draw vital energy to the body, producing physical, psychological, and in some cases spiritual benefits.

Energy in alternative medicine

The approaches known collectively as "energy therapies" vary widely in philosophy, approach, and origin. The ways in which this energy is used, modified, or manipulated to effect healing also vary.

Theories of spiritual energy not validated by the scientific method are usually termed non-empirical beliefs by the scientific community. Claims related to energy therapies are most often anecdotal, rather than being based on repeatable empirical evidence.

Vitalism and spirituality in the age of electricity

The successes of the era of the Enlightenment in the treatment of energy in natural science were intimately bound up with attempts to study the energies of life, as when Luigi Galvani's neurological investigations led to the development of the Voltaic cell. Many scientists continued to think that living organisms must be constituted of special materials subject to special forces, a view which became known as vitalism. Mesmer, for example, sought an animal magnetism that was unique to life.

As microbiologists studied embryology and developmental biology, particularly before the discovery of genes, a variety of organisational forces were posited to account for the observations.

The attempt to associate additional energetic properties with life has been all but abandoned in modern research science.

Parapsychology

These pages do not cover all of parapsychology, but only those that are concerned with some "energy". Some effects studied in that discipline, such as telepathy and dowsing at a distance, are by nature attempting to go beyond normal time-space, so these are excluded.
Chinese vitalism

The traditional explanation of acupuncture states that it works by manipulating the circulation of qi energy through a network of meridians . . .. However the idea of qi is not confined to medicine, as it appears throughout traditional East Asian culture, for example, in the art of Feng Shui, in Chinese martial arts and spiritual tracts.

Sir John Woodroffe used the term cosmic energy to denote Shakiti in his English translations of the Hindu Tantric texts of the Hindu philosophy known as Kashmir Shaivism.

1216 hours. Home from errands. With the editing it still seems like there is a lot of 'stuff' in here really plausible in the Merlyn books.

Where is your mind, boy? - Amorella

I don't want to get into all this. I thought you were going to edit this down to a paragraph or so. I wasn't thinking about any of this in terms of spiritual energy. Is there such a thing as spiritual passion? Though, I don't really like that phrase either. Why don't I know the specific words I want to use?

The specific words you are looking for 'deeper energy' in context, for lack of a better phrase; do not exist which is the reason I chose to use them. - Amorella

1249 hours. I have no idea, Amorella. I just really hate being in this quandary. No words. Yet, there should be words that I can work with. 'Deeper spiritual energy' needs to be quantified. What is the difference [in my thinking] between spiritual energy and deeper spiritual energy? Let Merlyn come up with something. He has to know what I am talking about.

Kim and Carol are stopping their boxing work for getting the house ready to show, hopefully to sell or at least to rent for a year (beginning next summer). You snacked on a couple handfuls of Planter's Dry Roasted Peanuts and are not hungry. They are going to Panera. Take a break until they leave, then Merlyn can do some talking. - Amorella

Orndorff, take physical out of the equation. Without a physical body more spiritual ebullience [exuberance] exists not less. Use ebullience to quantify; having a buoyant and lively (spiritual-like) curiosity.

Actually, this previous paragraph is a truer direction in desiring to name human states of being even as a spirit or ghost.  (1328)

         Post. - Amorella
