Notes - life as it is / putzing around / 516 words of Pouch 10

Carol told you to do a couple of things before you left to get your haircut, you acknowledged but did not listen carefully. When you returned home she said that she told you to turn off the television and to remember she was driving the car to the license bureau. On the way to get the haircut you noticed her renewal paper and wondered if she was going and you thought about turning around but you did not figuring that if she really wanted to go she would stop by the barber shop and take the paper, but she did not, she waited instead. -Amorella

I remember she mentioned the television remote, that it was on the island, but I didn't hear her tell me to turn it off, also I did not hear her say she was going to the license bureau. She was still in her pajamas and robe working on the computer. Normally she might play a game or two after checking her email. Anyway, I erred. She had begun to clean up after one of the cats so I took over that so she could get going, since there are sometimes long lines at the license bureau. Tomorrow is her birthday and I need to get her a card. My beard does look much better Mary Ann said it had been ten weeks since my last haircut; November twelfth, she said. When I looked in the mirror at the shop it was getting a bit ragged. It is cold, seven above, but the sun is out.

You want to work on Pouch-10, but perhaps later. Relax, boy, and get yourself together. Post. - Amorella

You want me to post this?

Why not? Life as it is. - Amorella

Almost noon. You are feeling better. Carol is home reading the paper; it wasn't so bad at the bureau, not so many lines for which you were thankful. You finished your exercises a few minutes ago. And, the mailman is coming down the street. Go get the mail, boy. Maybe a car magazine arrived. - Amorella

Alas, a Better Home and Garden for Carol, who is presently finishing up her walk on the treadmill. Monthly utility bills also, like you say, life as it is. No complaints from me. I like Obama's speech from yesterday. I'm glad he was re-elected. I hope the best for this country, but no more than I hope for the best for the world, and any other as far as that goes; fiction or no.

Is this a return to Angels and aliens in mind? - Amorella

Just the thought of both gives my imagination encouragement; it is not a hope though. I'll take encouragement. Imagination is like the moon in its waning and waxing. I don't know why. And, I'm a bit apprehensive over this Pouch-10 as I assume there are going to be awkward introductions.

Why do you assume this? Amorella

Because no one meets on a level playing field. Friendly, Hartolite and Yermey are right; they must meet with earthlings with earth beneath their feet. I would think Mother Earth would be the very stability Blake, Pyl and Justin will need. Even the marsupial humanoids brought their own dirt and grass for Ship's floor beneath their own bare feet. Solid ground or some semblance of it. (1233)

Late afternoon. Lunch at Panera/Chipotle. You are at McD's on Mason-Montgomery once again this time you both have hot drinks. Now is not the time to work, boy. You've just been putzing around in any case since driving the Hybrid Fusion and looking carefully at a well-dressed C-Max, Ford's response to the Prius. Post. - Amorella

You have time for a quick stop at Kroger's for bananas, a stable for both of your breakfasts. Here's the way Pouch 10 is going to go. Friendly speaks first to Pyl. She re-introduces Hartolite and then Yermey, who the earthlings have not met. Friendly comes right out after the introductions and says, "We are not who we say we are. Give us time to explain. Are you willing to give us the time?" Blake interrupts with, "First we need to make sure the plane is safe to fly. We have a problem with vapor lock."

We need to get off this road, added Pyl.

Justin asked, Where is your transportation? How did you know we would be here?

Did you see us attempt a landing at the airport?

"We are foreigners,” replied Yermey. "We do not have U.S. citizenship."

You see, this is the idea of introduction. - Amorella

Wow. Much better. I was beginning to roll with the dialogue.  (1654)

2157 hours. I stopped at "Suddenly." I have 516 words of a first draft.

Drop it in and post. You can clean up what you have tonight and we will finish this tomorrow. - Amorella

Who is saying what in the dialogue?

For much of it, it makes no difference. I like the effect. - Amorella

         It was a quick draft.

It is a quick scene. Drop in and post. - Amorella

Diplomatic Pouch 10 (partial first draft)

Friendly speaks first to Pyl by re-introducing Hartolite and then Yermey, who the earthlings have not met. Friendly then says, "We are not who we say we are. Please give us time to explain." A pause.  "Are you willing to give us the time?"
Blake interrupts, "First we need to make sure the plane is safe to fly. We have a problem with vapor lock."
With polite reserve Pyl added, "We need to get off this road."
Justin opened with, "Where is your transportation? How did you know we would be here?"
"Did you see us attempt a landing at the airport?" declared Blake with his eyes on the engine.
"We are foreigners,” replied Yermey. "We do not have U.S. citizenship."
"There is no need to check for vapor lock," said Hartolite. "We forced your plane down so we could talk on the ground."
Blake turned, "What did you say?"
         "Are you terrorists?"
"What do you want with us?"
         "We wish to be friends."
"Why did you say you forced us down?"
         "Because we did."
         "How?"
"We caused the vapor lock accidently."
         "It is physics."
"Ship caused your plane to slide at the airport."
"We did seem to slide," said Blake. "It felt like the wheels were on ice while we were in the air."
         "It is caused by blackenot."
"This is the reason no one saw you, why you couldn't contact by radio."
         "What do you mean?"
         "The engine restarted."
         "It was an unknown."
         "It stopped again."
         "You were in no danger."
"Your plane touched Ship. It was not a bird that cracked the wingtip light. Ship did. You touched Ship with blackenot on. You could not see us."
"We did not wish to show ourselves at that time."
"Because you are not citizens. You came across from Canada?"
"No. You can see we are human."
"I didn't think you were aliens," said Pyl.
         "We are cousins," declared Yermey.
"We are human," said Friendly, "but we do not live here."
"Listen," said Yermey. You are concerned about your plane. Get in and start the engine. Friendly and Hartolite. May they ride with you?"
"You both have been guests before. Come on board if Blake finds it fly worthy," said Pyl. "What about you?"
"I will see to your safety."
         "With what?"
         "Ship." Yermey point up.
"What is that? It doesn't make sense."
         "I don't really see anything."
         "Where is the sky?"
Blake was already in the plane. The engine started normally. "Everyone in," he said. "Pyl help me with the exterior visual inspection."
"We are good to go," said Friendly from near the wingtip. "I already have it."
"I'll feel better once we are in the air. There is not a trace of problem with the engine." Everyone strapped in. Blake glanced about. No cars. No people. He rolled the plane down the township road, the rived the engine up with the flaps down. Slowly but surely speed picked up, then the plane lifted just before they saw the house on the right after the trees. Airborne. The plane flew perfectly normal. Everyone clapped.
         Suddenly.
