Mid-morning. You and Carol shoveled about
four inches of fine snow from the driveway and sidewalk. It is quite cold with
the wind. You are cleaned up and within the hour you will be heading to the
doctor’s office for your scheduled appointment. – Amorella

hours. I was surprised how difficult it was shoveling this morning. The snow is
heavy but fine like salt granules. Jadah needs warmed so enough for now.
Mid-afternoon. Your morning at the doctor’s
took longer because you had an EKG and then had to go to Bethesda North
Outpatient Imaging for a chest X-ray and blood work. You had a late lunch at
Panera/Chipotle and are now at Pine Hill Lakes Park watching kids and adults
riding down the snow covered hills on various snow sliding vehicles – some of
which (plastic platforms) you have never seen before. Everybody appears to be
having fun in the cold and snow. – Amorella

hours. We haven’t been over to observe. I think school was cancelled today
after a two-hour delay. Lakota Schools were; I assume Mason’s were also. Carol
is reading a new Money magazine – one of her favorites since we returned to the
States in 1972. That doesn’t seem so long ago. A lot of people born and a lot
of people have died during that time. I wonder if there is (in the fiction) any
co-mingling of the pre-born and the Dead. How would that work anyway?
In here, logic being as it is, souls are
attached to their heartansoul permanently but for one aspect, perhaps two.
Without a soul the heartanmind could not survive physical death. Yet, you once
experienced an exchange of one soul for another during those mystical-like days
in 1988. – Amorella

hours. Carol wanted to come home, so here we are. We’ve talked about that
‘event’ before I believe. In any case I give that one up to an over active
imagination. That was during the time of the ‘ghostly hallway incident’ I don’t
remember. Carol and Kim were watching television on the lower floor of the
bi-level. I suddenly had the feeling of ‘leaving my body’ and somehow I sensed
that something left (I thought in the concept of a white dove soaring out to
the left (east) and another soaring in from the right (west) to take its place.
I was lying on our bed head at the north. Why do you bring up this? Once you do
then I have to re-collected the event in my head.
You say the ‘ghost in the hallway’ was an
incident while the seeming ‘exchange of souls’ was an event. Why? In context
what is the difference between an incident and an event? – Amorella
I don't know.

incident – noun
1 incidents

hours. This doesn’t provide much help. Both were occurrences.
An ‘occurrence’ is not thought of as
imaginary. It might be a ‘happening’ or an ‘incident’, but those aren’t normally
related to a fancied invention or a figment. – Amorella

figment –

a figment of his very
creative imagination: invention,
creation, fabrication; hallucination, illusion,

hours. Within the framework of ‘figment’ the only other word that fits is
‘invention’. The ghost in the hallway was probably a delusion of sorts, who
knows. The exchanging of souls was an unconscious fabrication. That’s the best
and simplest way to explain what occurred. Okay, I am back to what I thought
earlier. I must have been in an illusion of sort that I was having, from time
to time, mystical-like experiences. I don’t feel that way today. Even then I
was always opening to questioning these things. Maybe they were out and out
hallucinations, but if so I wasn’t on drugs or alcohol or anything of that sort.
It was probably a temporal lobe problem – left or right I don’t remember. I am
not looking up those bloody notes from 1988 even if there were any. What good
is this Amorella? Why have me go through all this stuff from time to time?
I mention this from time to time to see if
you are consistent. I like consistency, boy. – Amorella

these books originally or re-write them now.
Carol made a tasty chili for supper. You
watched the news and an episode of “All in the Family”. Carol is catching up on
a couple of her shows. Last night you watched “Grimm” and part of “Revolution”
which in your mind is beginning to wear down. “Grimm” has been consistently good
and getting better since its inception. That’s your take on character and plot.
As
you were reading through the new April “Consumer’s Report” you saw little about

hours. I just remembered that I had read this a couple of weeks ago online but
forgot until I saw the page. Mostly I like it because it helps vindicate our
decision to buy the car. Cars cost so much and when you keep them a long time
the investment is not in the money but in the reliability and cost of running
the vehicle. We did well with our 2003 Honda Accord EX and are doing well with
our 2005 Honda Accord EX, but some of that is luck. Lemons come in all cars
from time to time no matter what the year, make or model. You really can’t know
if a car was worth its price until you have sold it and look over the expenses for
the car since buying it. Part of the fun is keeping meticulous records and
checking it out over the long run. I hope the Avalon fares as well as our Accords
have.
You did not work on the second run of
GMG.One today. Time for it tomorrow. Perhaps it is just as well. Proofreading
burns into a person. It is tiring work looking at grammar and content at the
same time. Today you were tired of it. Just as well that you waited. – Amorella

hours. This has been bugging me ever since. “War is what makes people free.”
Where is that coming from? It sounds like the Ministry of Truth in George
Orwell’s 1984.

Ministry
of Truth
In George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the Ministry of
Truth is Oceania’s propaganda ministry. It is one of the four ministries
that govern the nation. As with the other Ministries in the novel, the Ministry
of Truth is a misnomer and in reality serves the opposite of its purported
namesake: it is responsible for any necessary falsification of historical
events. The book describes a willful fooling of posterity using doctored
historical archives to show a government-approved version of events.
As well as administering truth, the
ministry spreads a new language amongst the populace called Newspeak, in which,
for example, "truth" is understood to mean statements like 2 + 2 = 5 when the situation warrants.
In Newspeak, the ministry is known as Minitrue.
Description
Winston Simith, the main character
of Nineteen Eighty-Four, works at the
Ministry of Truth. It is an enormous pyramidal structure of glittering white
concrete rising 300 metres into the air, containing over 3000 rooms above
ground. On the outside wall are the three slogans of the Party: "WAR IS
PEACE," "FREEDOM IS SLAVERY," "IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH."
There is also a large part underground, probably containing huge incinerators
where documents are destroyed after they are put down memory holes. For his
description, Orwell was inspired by the Senate House at the University of
London.
Role
in information
The Ministry of Truth is involved with news
media, entertainment, the fine arts and educational books. Its purpose is to
rewrite history to change the facts to fit Party doctrine for propaganda
effect. For example, if Big Brother makes a prediction that turns out to be
wrong, the employees of the Ministry of Truth go back and rewrite the
prediction so that any prediction Big Brother previously made is accurate. This
is the "how" of the Ministry of Truth's existence. Within the novel,
Orwell elaborates that the deeper reason for its existence is to maintain the
illusion that the Party is absolute. It cannot ever seem to change its mind
(if, for instance, they perform one of their constant changes regarding enemies
during war) or make a mistake (firing an official or making a grossly misjudged
supply prediction), for that would imply weakness and to maintain power the
Party must seem eternally right and strong.
Departments
The following are the departments of the
ministry mentioned in the text:
•
Records Department (Recdep in
Newspeak)
•
Fiction Department (Ficdep)
•
Pornography department
(Pornosec)
•
Tele-programmes Department
(Teledep)
It is noteworthy that while the term
"Ministry" implies that it is headed by a minister, there is nowhere
in the book any mention of a Minister of Truth nor of the ministers heading
Oceania's three other Ministries. The heads of the ministries are evidently
shadowy figures with all public attention focused on Big Brother.

the time but I am glad it came to mind. I don’t know the answer any more than
anyone else but Lord Acton’s “Power corrupts” also comes to mind. Now you have
brought up anger and it is time for me to shut up.
Good idea to shut up. Enjoy “Castle” tonight
